  • System crash in Fedora 13

MB: Asus P5Q-EM, with the latest BIOS
    RAM: F2-6400CL5Q-16GBPQ
    CPU: Q9550

This morning I received this package and installed them on my Linux PC, to upgrade it from original small 8GB configuration.

At first I spent 2 hours running memtest+-4.1 on it to check 16GB memory and it passed.
Then I tried to boot Fedora13, but every time the system just crashed without response after login and using it for a while, unless I reset it.

Because overclocking is not my style, all settings about DRAM timing have been set to Auto since original 4x2GB modules were used.
And it's weird that once I tried to set BIOS DRAM frequency as DDR2-800, it crashed soon in booting stage with showing some "segment register error" like messages.

Now I've reinstalled them in different orders and start to run over-night memtest+.
To see if any malfunction memory cell could be found.

    Any suggestion or comment?

These should be plug and play. Try setting memory to 1.90V, and NB Voltage to 1.20V and see if that makes a difference.

      Thanks for your info.

I tried, but it didn't work. (Also tried to adjust timing parameters slower)
All night memory test passed but still Fedora13 crashes.

So 1 stick at a time everything passed? Do you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard?

        Thank you

Yes, every single DIMM passed and BIOS is the latest.

I also tried to remove the side plate of the case and reinstall OS. The system still hangs.

Try reinstalling Fedora to see if that solves the problem. I can't see any problems so far.

            Thank you

I tried to reinstall FC12, FC13-x86_64 & windows 7, and all failed to work.

It seems to be compatibility issue to this MB, since I installed 2 of them on my P5KPL-CM, it was recognized as 8GB and can run Windows XP normally. (Though only half of 8GB can be used by OS)

              Anyway, thanks for your help.
