  • F2- 8800CL5D-4GBPI Recommended settings for p5n-d mobo -

    F2- 8800CL5D-4GBPI x2 = 4GB just installed in P5N-D intel motherboard with Core 2 duo e8400 CPU
I set the timings in the bios per ram specs, but was wondering what else I should set.

Also, as soon as my cooling products arrive, I will be OC'ing and wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions.

Make sure memory voltage is set to 2.1V. Make sure memory frequency is set at 1100 as well.

Regarding OC, it depends what you're trying to reach. For a simple OC, I'm thinking 1600 FSB UNLINKED. DDR2-1100. 3.6GHz CPU Frequency @ 1.3V CPU VCore. Very good gaming system. =)

      Thanks for your reply,
I up'd the voltage to 2.1 and set it to 1100 like you suggested.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, here's CPUZ images:

OC'ing will come when I get my cooling

        'I'm thinking?' heh..

        I'm thinking 4050Mhz 450FSB with DDR2-1121Mhz with that core.

Also I noticed it saying PC 6400 in CPUZ and not 8800. Is there a way to unlock that or is it set but just showing as that?

No, that is simply the JEDEC standard for the motherboard so it can not be changed.

            'I'm thinking?' heh..

            I'm thinking 4050Mhz 450FSB with DDR2-1121Mhz with that core.
He hasn't gotten his cooler yet! haha He can do that when he does, and if he actually wants/needs a monster like that. =P

Should have quite a bit of fun OCing since you have a good combo that seems to get along. I noticed the Mem Frequency is slightly short, but we'll take care of that when you OC. =)

CPU cooler arrived, case will come in tomorrow. Will update my sig with system specs.

I'll adjust it when everything is installed, thanks for noticing

After much research, I've read the the mobo I have is not a very good OC'er - 750i P5N-D http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...33&modelmenu=1
Any comments on that? or I'm I good to go.

              Thanks for your replies,
              Cheers

Not sure where you are getting that info, but it's incorrect. 3.6 is easy, some can even get away with stock Vcore. 4.0 takes a little work and VCore bump. Above that it's going to take some tuning, but overall, like I said in my previous post, you should have quite a bit of fun without headaches. I am familiar with this setup so I will be able to help you if you run into road blocks. =)

It gets really nasty on FSB around 451-475, but that's like 4.0-4.27Ghz, but it's 'do-able' on that hardware. I'd settle with 450 and of course this depends very largely on very many specs. CPU-VID voltage for one does the specific core go this high, but motherboard will go to this also memory for sure (not exactly on stock specs, but well lets say ~2.2v(2.328v actual) on RAM and around ~1.328v(actual with vDroop) on vCore and little northbridge tweaking.. memory won't post below 1.488v(this would be 1.43-1.45v on BIOS) NB you can be sure of that.).

Anyway, as all computers has soul of their own in a sense only true mother of all OC is testing..

                    Ok, thanks for the info

On to what my progress is, got all my gear, case arrived today. Noticed the CPU cooler plate is somewhat concave and not completely flat, read/viewed some articles on lapping and going to examine the CPU and see if it needs lapping too.

I was going to return the ThermalTake v9, but already paid too much to ship it here, so sticking with it. Found a place where I can mount a second intake fan on the front, so should be good enough.

Will keep you'all updated when it's together and running ready to get my hands dirty

I know this thread is titled "Recommended settings" but just wanted to update on my OC'ing thus far. Didn't do much on the RAM yet, but uped the CPU to 3.6 from 3.0 stock.

To save myself copying/pasting, I'll just re-route you to another thread I made on 3dgameman.com forums, it was he who suggested the RAM afterall.

Look at you breezing through your OC while other people have huge headaches! =) Told you it would be easy. 3.6, DDR2-1100, and flying!

Post up results when you near 4.0 and DDR2-1200 =P

                            I've got it stable now.

Benchmarking on 3dmark06 went from 13416 to 16196

                            FSB 422 (1688 in bios)
                            Mem 1100
                            Vcore 1.360v (1.41250v in bios)
                            Dram 2.090v
                            HT 1.40v
                            NB 1.46v
                            SB 1.50v

Mem Timing as per specs so far, tried to up it to 1200 off the bat and wouldn't post. Dropped it down to 1150 - 1125 and still wouldn't post or freeze on post. Tried upping the DRAM voltage as well, same.

Took me long enough to get the cpu stable at 3.8, tried several times to 4.0 without any success.
