  • F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK x 2 & GA-EP45-UD3P problems

    hello,

i am having some trouble with my ep45-ud3p and f2-8500cl5d-4gbpk. i have followed the guide for this setup, and it still does not seem to work. it constantly reboots if i set the speed anywhere higher than ~925. if i use one of the dividers and bring it down below 925, then the system will boot fine until its restarted. if i restart the computer, with will get stuck in a reboot loop for 3 cycles or so an then will boot into bios. when i enter the bios i get the red screen telling me that the settings failed.

when i get into windows, everything works fine. i have prime95 inplace large fft run 58 hours with no errors and small fft run for 13 hours and no errors.

i would really just like to get it to be able to keep the settings it has programmed and not constantly reboot if the computer is restarted. i am not looking for a huge overclock on this just to get the ram to run at rated speeds. i have overclocked the system with other ram and found it to be stable up to 4+ghz, so i know its not a cpu instability problem. with the other ram i do not get the constant reboot problem, but i am only using 2 x 1gb 533 sticks.

i have tried countless combinations of voltage settings, but can not seem to get rid of the problem. so i am hoping someone can provide me with a little guidance.

any help is greatly appreciated. sorry for such a long post. thanks!!

Static tREAD value 10. System Memory Multiplier 4.00A since you have a 266 FSB. 3.00A for DDR2-800.

Noticed your processor is pentium 4 630 prescott... the FSB just might not be good enough to operate DDR2-1066.

    Try
    ICH I/O..........1.500v...[1.600]
    ICH Core.........1.100v...[1.200]

to see if that will help stabilize, but otherwise it simply may not be stable enough to operate DDR2-1066. Keep me posted on the results.

Thanks for making your own thread, it's easier to troubleshoot this way. =)

    Thank you

      ok great thanks
do i need to set the (G)MCH Frequency Latch...........[Auto] as well or leave that as auto? i noticed you mentioned it in the other thread.

yes, everything is new but the chip lol. getting a new one here in the near future, just tryin to use this one to get by for now.

why would the fsb not be good enough to operate ddr2-1066?

will test now and post back. thanks!!

edit: nope doesnt work. i now get a bunch of short beeps and longer reboot cycle.

i have upped the FSB to 275 and put the divider to 3.33C and it seems to boot. this puts the memory at 917.
goin to run prime95 for a while and see what happens, then pull a restart and see if its gets stuck in a reboot cycle or boots right up with the correct settings. here are the updated settings:

The problem is the processor has a FSB of 800 and it needs 1066+ to run DDR2-1066 stable. You need to find the stable FSB overclock and hopefully that will stabilize the memory. The tricky thing with this motherboard is that it has set memory multipliers for the specific FSB/MCH frequency. So anything in between like your current 275, gives you in between numbers for memory as well such as 917. As a result, the only way to reach 1066 is to run FSB/MCH at 266 with a 4.00A System Memory Multiplier. Anything else will be uneven.

          Try this...

          Channel B Reference..0.900v...[0.900]

At this point, the higher you OC your FSB the higher your memory can be. What I am trying to achieve with the above settings is to see if at AUTO multi, the motherboard will run the higher FSB without increasing the memory past 1066.

If that doesn't work, try setting one (FSB or MCH) to 275 while having the other at 266 with a 4.00A multi to hopefully get DDR2-1066 with an OC FSB or MCH to stabilize the memory.

Let me know how that goes.

          Thank you

ok so the changes i see are

            System Memory Multiplier ........[AUTO]
            Memory Frequency (Mhz) ..........1066....1066
            CPU PLL………….............1.500v....[1.600V]

the computer is currently on like hour 17 of prime95 small fft with the previous settings.
i believe if i set teh memory multiplier to auto it will try to run teh ram at 1100 (275 * 4) and not 1066. i will try it though as well as increase the pll.

i will test tonight and report back.

            thanks!!

alright without making the above changes yet, i was able to boot into windows without going through reboot cycles.

here are some screenshots of the settings from inside windows

the computer is currently on like hour 17 of prime95 small fft with the previous settings.
i believe if i set teh memory multiplier to auto it will try to run teh ram at 1100 (275 * 4) and not 1066. i will try it though as well as increase the pll.

i will test tonight and report back.

ok i made the changes and rebooted and got nothing but fast short beeps.

i then made the following changes:

i changed dram voltage to 2.120 to get it to read 2.10 in everest and hardware monitor pro, as it was reading a little low in windows.

i have also done some other testing as well. if i try to restart from windows or reboot after changing the settings in the bios, i get stuck in a reboot cycle and loose the bios settings. if i shut down the computer and let it sit for a little bit and then turn it back on, it boots right up without problems.

                any ideas??

Try lowering the VCore a little. It may be a tad bit too high, set it at 1.38V in BIOS. Sounds like something might be over done causing the immediate reboots as a pre caution.

Set these manually and let me know what happens:

alright these had a successful restart after saving in bios.
will try restarting from windows a few time a little later.

i also notices the the channel b static read and other settings have now changed and differ from channel a. any ideas on why that changed??

what do you think of these new settings??
i guess the next thing to try is setting the memory divider to 4.00C or auto and see if it will finally work.

The static tREAD value can simply change depending on what the motherboard wants to pick up, that's why we have them manually set.

The new settings look good. The questions is if it runs stable. Try downloading Everest Ultimate to run some tests. Hopefully when you change to 1066 it will operate since your FSB is 1140 now. =x

it ran prime95 small fft for 13 hours with no errors and large fft for like 10 hours with no errors.
when i restarted the computer from windows however, it got stuck in a reboot loop and lost all the settings again.

i set them again and changed it to 4.00c and can got nothing but short beeps and reboots. same when changed to auto. so i back it down to fsb 266 and set at auto and again nothing but short beeps and reboots.

so i moved back to 285 and reset the settings. it will reboot from bios and into windows without gettin a reboot cycle, but not when i select reboot in windows it get stuck again. if i choose shut down and windows and then let it sit for a few seconds, it will boot right up again no probs.

it has been memtesting since 830am est today with no errors, ill see how many passes it has done when i get home a little later.

so i guess its either a board problem or a cpu problem. what do you think?
i guess i could just tighten up the timings and run it at like 900 or so.

                            alright
so i have been lowering the fsb to see if i can get it to run on sys mem multi at auto and i get nothing but short beeps. i tried from fsb = 235 down to 200, ram 940 down to 800, and it would only boot when at 800.

if i use the 3.33C divider i can get it up to ~950 before getting the short beeps.

is this possibly a board problem, that i should rma back to newegg for a refund before time runs out and get a differnet one? or is this still a ram problem??

Definitely not RAM, the memory is doing everything you're asking it to. It may be the motherboard's inability to stabilize the overclock, it's just quite odd that it will be 100% stable one moment, then not later.

try reducing MCH Core to 1.4V, there just might be a voltage that isn't spot on so it is conflicting with the motherboard causing it to reboot sometimes and not other times. Before sending anything for an exchange, tinker with the voltages to see what might stabilize it.

                              Thank you
