Default F2-8500CL5D OC problems@1066MHz

Default DDR2 Memory - Intel e8400 P35 GSK F2-8000CL5D-4GB
I have recently been trying to OC my (previously stock) PC. I was disappointed that I could not get the memory to run faster that 866 MHz before I started seeing memory errors on memtest86 4.0 That corresponded to the e8400 running at 3250 MHz (361x9). When I purchased this ram I thought it was listed as capable of 1066MHz operation. I have increased the CPU to 1.125v and the memory to 2.0v. Vtt of FSB increased to 1.175v, NB to 1.35, SB to 1.7v, SBcore 1.35v. I have seen articles with the e8400 on this MB easily running much faster than 3250 MHz. No problem with CPU temps 45 C.

I have MSI-P35 Neo2 motherboard which should be capable of higher OC as well.
I saw your response with this memory on AMD Phenom II but understand that Intel can be significantly different.

Thanks (in advance)

Do you have the latest BIOS, 1C, can be found here:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P35-Neo2.html#/?div=BIOS

What FSB are you running? Will want 1066 or 1333. Then reset the BIOS, turn off, Install the sticks, boot to BIOS set sticks to 1066, timings to 5-5-5-15, CR to 2T and DRAM voltage to 2.1

Default F2-8500CL5D OC problems

I have the latest BIOS. I could not get my e8400 to run reliably at over 375FSB. Even at that freq I see an occasional spontaneous reboot which I assume was processor related since it was not preceeded by any memory errors. The most I have gotten with the DRAM was 900MHz without any errors when it would not reboot. The memory was at 2.1v and the ratio was 1:1.2 memory was tried at 6-6-6-18 after it failed at 5-5-5-15. I did not see a way to set 2T but assume that was default.

I was not sure how much I could push voltage for the Core Duo e8400. I had it set at 1.250v when it ran successfully at 375FSB. Do you think a higher voltage would help those spontaneous REBOOTs?

FSB - 360
CPU Multi - 9
CPU Freq - 3241
Mem - F2-8500CL5D
Dram timings 6-6-6-18
tRFC 42 (see posts of HiSpeed)
DRAM Voltage - 2.10v
All the rest is auto

Any other suggestions on getting this stable???
Thanks

Which slots are they installed in? NB Voltage is high for one single kit. Try not to boost voltages if unnecessary.

tRFC should be 68-74

You can test one at a time to see if it is one not performing to specifications.

Thank you

Default F2-8500CL5D OC problems@1066MHz

I have been running my memory in Dimm A1 & B1. This is one of the dual channel modes in the manual. (i.e. slots 1 & 3 counting from the processor). I turned the NB voltage down. I had slightly increased all voltages one or two clicks. I set tRFC up to 60 which was the highest my BIOS would allow.

I tested each one separately in slot A1. One passed memtest 4.0 at 1066 but failed at 1080.
The second passed at 1050 but failed at 1066. Together they passed at 1050 which is fine with me.

Once I finished testing my ram, I tried various speeds for my e8400 with the ram @900. It was not completely stable at FSB375 (x9=3375) so I settled for FSB361 (x9=3250).(I guess my processor is not one of the better e8400s) :-(
No problems with temps since I have AC Freezer 7.

Since the e8400 has a 6144k L2cache, I thought I would get max performance maxing out the CPU rather than the ram. This passed 4 cycles of Memtest 4.0.

I would appreciate any further thoughts or comments.
Thanks,

Kr36303

Might raise the NB voltage just a tad, (+ .04) and that might be enough for 1066)

Have you tried other two slots? A2 B2?

Thank you
