  • F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM + ASRock Extreme4 Gen3 = Prime85 Errors

    Hey Guys,

    my brandnew G.Skill RAM Kit F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM doesn't run as it should. I do get Errors when running Prime95 (with the XMP1.2 profile loaded, of course).

    CPU: i7-2600k
    MoBo: ASRock Extreme4 Gen3 Z68
    RAM: F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM

    I've tried nearly EVERYTHING, it's impossible to get the system stable:
    TRFc: 160, 170
    VTT Voltage: 1,1 - 1,3V
    RAM Voltage: 1,65V - 1,70V
    HT on/off, Spread Spectrum on/off, PLL overvoltage function on/off etc.

    The System DOES run 12h Prime stable with CL11-11-11-40-1N @2133MHz. In Addition, I don't get any errors after running 10h memtest with the XMP settings (9-11-10-28-1N).

    What can I do? Any Suggestions?

    So you have XMP enabled, do you have the latest BIOS 1.10 - if not can be found here:

      Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that... yeah I got the latest 1.10b BIOS. My G510 keyboard didn't work with 1.10, so I had to install the 1.10b BETA Version. I hope this is no problem.

        Do you have the 2600K at stock or what type OC do you have on it? the 2133 sticks at native freq require an OC, might try at 4.2-4.4

          Oh, really? Well that's new for me. Yeah my i7 runs at stock clocks. With the old Corsair Dominator I had it @4800MHz 12h Prime95 stable. When I apply this settings with the new G.Skill RAM + TRFc 170 and VTT Voltage 1,3V I get an error after 1s. Also with 4,4GHz it isn't stable at all.

            Have you tried 9-11-10-28 with 2N instead of 1......Odd that ASRock tested with the Low and High Ripjaws X but not your Mediums.....If the CR at 2N doesn't help, might drop them an email and see if they have any updates for the mobo, they have a contact page here:

            http://www.asrock.com/support/tsd.asp

            (From what I've seen response times can vary quite a bit)

              Thanks a lot for helping me btw.
              Yes I already tried with 2N... I got a BSOD while loading Windows (without OC). With OC 4,8 I get that typical error in Prime too.

              Sorry but what exactly do you mean with low and high Ripjaws? My mediums? I do remember that there was another RAM Kit with the same specifications, only the price was twice as much as mine. So I chose the cheaper ones^^
              And yes, I do know the RAMs are not in the QVL of my board. But be honest, is that really so important?

                Overclock Potential:
                L = Low
                M = Medium
                H = High

                    Ahh okay thanks, didn't know that with high/low/medium. Well but actually I don't care about RAM OC. I just want to run the RAMs at it's specifications. When I buy RAM with 2133MHz and CL9-11-10-27 I expect that they run that speed and timings without any issues.
                    First I tried with stock CPU clock. Now the i7-2600k runs at 4800MHz. 12h prime stable with old Corsair Dominators (1333MHz CL7-7-7-20 AMD (!) optimized).

                    I will now test the single RAM DIMMS with memtest. I really have absolutely no idea what to do next...

                      You can't run 2133 memory at stock, afaik. You have to run overclock.

                      What does ASRock say is standard memory speed for your mobo?

                      Somewhere in specs it will say 2133(OC)... that is not a stock setting.

                        Which slots are they installed in? Make sure they are in the slots furthest away from CPU (same color).

                        Thank you

                            Hey guys! I feel so sorry that I didn't response to you the last days, but actually I really have got absolutely no time because of university studies. But I think i will manage to test the single RAM DIMMs with memtest this week.

                            Nope, I have installed them in the slots nearest to the CPU. And my RAM Banks are all coloured gray but of course I have installed them in dual channel mode.

                            Later I will contact the ASRock Support, but as I already said: My old OC settings (i7 @4,8GHz) was rockstable (12h Prime without errors/crashes) with old Corsair Dominator RAMs. Changing RAMS shouldn't affect CPU OC, am I right?

                              Being stable w/ 1333 sticks is a far cry from 2133 sticks. And 2133 require an OC, might try the XMP enabled at 2133, leave the other DRAM timings to auto, might even go to your 4.8 OC and see how that does. Any time you go with high performance/fast sticks the rest of the system has to run fast enough for them to perform at rated speed i.e. there's sticks out there faster than yours that some mobos and some CPU's just can't run period, good example would be AMD CPUs, there are very few that can even run 1866, and less at 2000, and maybe only a couple or 3 that can think about 2133
