  • F3-12800cl9d-4gbnq + 1. Gigabyte ga-ma770t-ud3p

    Hi,

I have purchased a new motherboard, CPU and G.Skill RAM:

    1. GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX
    2. AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor Model HDZ955FBGIBOX
    3. G.SKILL 2 x 2GB Dual Chanel DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) - F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ

GA-MA770T-UD3P supports 1333 DDR3, but according to Gigabyte, it's possible to overclock the RAM to 1666. I would sincerely appreciate if somebody could write down step by step instructions of how to adjust the settings in BIOS so that RAM is running at 1666?

    Thank you.

You may have to get the info from Gigabyte, most RAM these days is set to run to the proscribed spec speed, overclocking it can be done but may require a lot of trying, and trying again.

Your mobo is rated to 1333 RAM aand up to 1666 as an OC on the RAM, to get to that you will need an OC on the CPU, increases on the voltages and some fine tuning of the advanced timings in the RAM. Your best bet to get RAM to run at 1666 w/ an AMD CPU would be to get 1800 or maybe 2000 speed RAM and downclock it to 1666.

The biggest problem you run into is that you need a strong MC to OC the RAM and the AMD CPUs just don't have one.
