  • Falcon II 64gb Align Partition

Even though I had an SSD for some time (and returned a faulty one for a new one), I have only just head about Aligning the drive.

Do I have to align it ?.

And why make a drive that doesn't work like a regular hdd with sector sizes and stuff.

What are the reasons for aligning it, and if it's important why isn't instruction supplied with the drives or software supplied to do it.

And now, how do I do it, will it destroy the data on it when done, will I have to reinstal Win7.

If there is any other info i should know that my questions havnt asked, then someone please explain.

    Hi skozzy

if you install win7, it has already aligned.
    win7 executed align automatically.
if you install win xp or vista.
    please visit this intro.http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=5560

but it will delete all of your data, please back up before operating this tool.
the other way, you can set your partition in win7 mode then format it.
    and then install win xp.
    it would be success.

      msinfo32 shows me the following:

partition #1 (the system reserved partition)
      Disk 1, Partition 0
      Partition Size 100.00mb (104,857,600 bytes)
      Partition Starting Offset (1,048,576 bytes)

      partition #2, (Windows 7 64bit)
      Disk 1, Partition 1
      Partition Size 59.53gb (63,915,950,080 bytes)
      Partition Starting Offset (105,906,176 bytes)

If I have it right you divide the offset by 4096 to check if the figure
is divisable by 4096 without getting any decimal points in the result. So...
      Partition #1 is 1,048,576 / 4096 = 256 (so perfectly aligned)
      Partition #2 is 105,906,176 / 4096 = 25,856 (so also perfectly aligned)

Do I have this correct ?

I also saw a mention about Erase Block Size, I can't seem to find anything that explains it in a way I understand. Is it something that is important to know for my Falcon II 64gb SSD.

I have also followed some of the tweeks to minimize the OS from writing to the drive. Cause I have a fair bit of ram I installed a ram drive from Dataram (its free), and all my temp folders are on it. I also disabled the defrag on C: as well. So as long as I understand the align correctly then I guess I am set for the best performance.
