  • Is it ok to use 32x2 3600MHz kit with Threadripper 3960x Processor?

    Hi,

    I have Asus ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha Motherboard with AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960x processor. It is mentioned 3200MHz in the processor's product page. See the screenshot below;

    I would like to purchase TrideztZ Neo because its the best option for Threadripper. My doubt is, whether I can use 3600MHz kit? or is there no use with RAM above 3200MHz?

    Can somebody please give me an expert advise?

    Thank you.

    You can use DDR4-3600 kit, just can not expect it to run at full speed. Set it to lower value and it should work fine.

    The motherboard and CPU performs best with four modules, so it may be best to select a quad channel memory kit.

      Hi, thanks for your reply.

      I understand, so I am going for 3200 because I wont be able to completely utilize 3600.

      Also could you please tell me why you recommend me to use four modules only and why 8 modules is not recommended? I gave Quad Channel Kit filter here https://www.gskill.com/products/1/165/326/Trident-Z-Neo and I an able to see 32GBx8 and 8GBx8 kits. Could you tell me what this is?

      Sorry, excuse me, I am a beginner in configuration side.

      Thank you.

        Either way is fine. Minimum 4 modules is all that's necessary, whether it's 4 or 8.
