  • 128GB (4x32GB) recommendation for Ryzen 5950x

    hi,

I'm building a new PC with Asus Crosshair VIII Hero and AMD 5950x for 3D and VFX work (75% 25% gaming).
    I'm Looking at recommendations for 4x 32GB = 128GB

I've read that this is a good option
    G.Skill Trident Z Neo 128 GB (4 x 32 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 (F4-3600C16Q-128GTZN)

but also you have announce a new 5000 RAM but I can't see a 4x32GB set?

You have announced 3800 and 4000 2 x 32GB kits, is it ok to double up on these?

    thanks

No, ideally you want one single kit of memory in a system.

The 128GB kit mentioned is a perfect fit.

      thank you.

I've seen recommendations for G.Skill and checked their QVL : https://bit.ly/3lmbag8 and has these two listed as "engineered and optimized for Ryzen"

      Trident Z Neo F4-3600C18Q-128GTZN DDR4-3600MHz CL18-22-22-42 1.35V 128GB (4x32GB)
      Trident Z Neo F4-3600C16Q-128GTZN DDR4-3600MHz CL16-22-22-42 1.45V 128GB (4x32GB)

Does CPU voltage need to be same as RAM?
Which one is recommended? the CL18 with 1.35v or CL16 with 1.45 voltage?

      thanks again

No. Why would it have to be?

Basically comes down to: Is the timing difference worth the price difference to you?

If you are not sure that it matters to you, then maybe just get the less expensive of the two.

hi emissary42 thank you, It's OK that they appear validated for motherboard on G.Skill but not on Asus? not a great deal of info on users putting 128GB into Ryzen setups.

Will buy the Trident Z Neo F4-3600C18Q-128GTZN DDR4-3600MHz CL18-22-22-42 1.35V 128GB (4x32GB) when it comes back in stock.

ASUS might just not have had them available for qualification testing, like it is often the case. They merely test a number of models from each manufacturer.
