  • F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ x 2 on Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5

    Hi Everyone,

I am having no luck trying to run 2 x F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ kits on my Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 mobo. The kits are rated at 1600 but I am unable to even run them stable at 1066.

I have tried running each kit separately and the best stable speed I could achieve was 1333.

My system specs are as follows:

    - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 Rev 1.0 F6 BIOS
    - Intel Core i7-930
    - 2 x F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ kits (12GB)
    - Lian-Li 750W PSU
    - 2 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD5670 1GB DDR5 in CrossfireX mode
    - LG BH10LS30 Blu Ray burner
    - 2 x Seagate 320GB HDD's in RAID0
    - 2 x Segate 1TB HDD
    - 1 x Western Digital 1TB HDD

I have tried the following things so far:

    - Tested each kit saeperately at 1066 with memtest - no errors found
    - Increased DRAM voltage to 1.65V and QTI voltage to 1.4V - system still crashes
    - Disable Intel Turbo Boost - no apparent effect
    - Fiddled with various BIOS settings as per many threads I have read in this forum
    - Banged my head repeatedly on my desk
    - Sworn constantly at my system
    - Cursed the aliens who supplied us with this technology

I use the system for video editing, graphic design, audio production, and gaming. The ability to use the full 12GB at the rated speed of 1600 would be most beneficial, particularly when rendering large video files.

I was surprised that I am unable to find any reference anywhere in this forum to anyone else who is using the GA-X58A-UD5 motherboard, let alone with this RAM.

Any help with the correct BIOS settings for this configuration would be most appreciated.
My sanity is all but gone!

      Hi Tradesman,

      Thanks for your speedy response!

My BIOS settings are set as follows:

      ADVANCED CPU CORE FEATURES
      ---------------------------------------
      Intel Turbo Boost = Disabled
      C1E = Disabled
      C3/C6/C7 State Support = Disabled
      All other options = Enabled

      ADVANCED MEMORY SETTINGS
      ------------------------------------
      X.M.P. = Disabled
      System Memory Multiplier = Auto
      Performance Enhance = Standard
      DRAM Timing Selectable = Auto
Timing & Turnaround settings for all channels = Auto

All voltage settings are set to Auto.

It might be worth noting that when I was running the F5 BIOS my system was extremely unstable and often detected only 5 of the 6 DIMMS at POST. When all DIMMS were correctly detected Windows would also report that there was only 10GB usable of my installed 12GB RAM. Since updating to the F6 BIOS the systems detects the correct amount of installed RAM at POST and also within Windows on each boot, and the computer is crashing less frequently than it was when the F5 BIOS was in use.

Also, when I was running the F6i beta BIOS my timings via SPD were defaulting to 9-9-9-24, which are the timings that are stated on the packaging of the RAM. However, after updating the BIOS to the F6 BIOS the default auto SPD timings are now set to 7-7-7-20.

By the way, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit.

You'll want to test each kit at the rated speed for errors, if all test okay then the kits may not be compatible or you could have a bad slot, depending on the CPU and individual board the AUTO voltage settings can vary, if you could post what they are at under AUTO would help....wouldn't want to randomly say raise say vCore by + .2 only to find that auto already has it to high and end up frying something

          Cool bananas.

I'm getting ready to go out and do some serious beer drinking atm, so I'll post the settings over the next day or two

          Thanks for your help.

might try DRAM at 1.55 and raise vCore to 1.2, QPI/VTT to 1.24, then if stable can try reducing vCore .01 at a time and same w/ DRAM while maintaining stability....must have been some serious beer drinking LOL
