  • Asus PX58D-E MB, will DR3-1600 speed Ripjaws 12GB (3 x 4GB) Triple Channel Kits work?

Just about completed a new personal build and I'm looking at three Triple Channel Ripjaws Kits for 12GB at a max speed of DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) for memory.

My concern is that I've been burnt by memory/MB/CPU problems in my previous three major builds. I've already looked over the PC forums without any clear memory advise. There's so much misinformation like from overclock.net's Asus P6X58D Premium & E Thread "Some users can run 1600Mhz successfully with some voltage tweaking but 1333Mhz is the max supported speed using 12 gigs." WEB research lead me to suspect that the best way to go for performance and less problems is to populate a single sticks in each of the dual channels on the x58 motherboard.

G.SKILL's Qualified Motherboards List for the Ripjaws Series Triple Channel 12 GB Kits usually show the older Asus P6X58D Premium and not its newer sibling PX58D-E.

    PC build Config............................................ .......
    Mobo:Asus PX58D-E
    CPU: Intel i7-950 Bloomfield
    RAM: ???
    Cooler: Corsair Hydro H70
    Case: CoolerMaster HAF 932 case
PS: COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Gold Series 800W
    GPU: ZOTAC ZT-98GEY3G-FSL GeForce 9800 GT 1GB (I'm not a gamer)
    HDD: many

    Given the Asus PX58D-E MB
    Question 1 - Will G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) Triple Channel Kits work at DDR3-1600 (PC3 12800) speed?

Question 2 - Newegg shows these 3 kits, which should perform at specs (with minor tweaking ?) .:. G.Skill guarantees 3 Dimms triple channel operation would reach announced specification

    F3-12800CL8T-12GBRM with timing: 8-8-8-24

    F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL with timing: 9-9-9-24

    F3-12800CL7T-12GBTDD with timing: 7-8-7-24 Trident+ Turbulence II 12GB

    Thanks - comments? suggestions?

    1. Yes, no problem.

    2. All three kits would work fine, you just need to input the proper settings.

      Thank you

I was thinking that maybe going with the max DDR3 2000, if it would have more headroom for minor board/CPU overclocking.

      like the F3-16000CL9T-12GBRM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) with timing: 9-10-9-28 @ 1.55 Volts

I would appreciate your advice / comments

Follow-up - just found a similar question for possibly a similar memory using Asus Rampage III Formula
      at http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=6737

GSKILL TECH, back on 11-05-2010 indicated that "The F3-12800CL8T-12GBRM is the best, but also the most expensive. What some people do is get the F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL and attempt 8-8-8-24 with 1.65V, but the specs aren't guaranteed.

I would go with the F3-16000CL9T-12GBRM. Save $10, and it is basically guaranteed for DDR3-2000 and DDR3-1600. You can test to see which setting is better. Also, since it is 1.55V, you should be able to bump the voltage a tad to achieve lower timings."

So, given a ASUS P6X58D-E, I would be better off going with the F3-16000CL9T-12GBRM and just work with the timing?
