I've been having many stability problems when running a certain game, an MMO that kept crashing madly (you can guess which). Contacting the MMO company, and following endless tech-support email ping-pong, I was told that to receive support I need to reach a 1:1 FSB : DRAM Freq ratio, for stability sake.
Being an overclocking newb (not n00b) that I am, I set about a small research into what I should do. I've gotten the latest BIOS + drivers to everything to begin with, and I am interested in getting to the golden 1:1 without any special OC (my rig is powerful enough as it is for now).
Starting with a ratio of 1:5 (FSB 133Mhz, DRAM at 666Mhz), and wanting the CPU (stocked at 2.66Ghz) to run at 2.8Ghz, I tried the following settings:
Ai Overclocking Tuner: X. M. P. (as per your recommendation I've read)
FSB: 200Mhz
CPU multiplier: 14 (= CPU @ nice solid 2.8Ghz)
With this I've gotten to a ratio of 2:8 (why isn't it 1:4 by the way? ...)
I have several questions:
1. Cpu-Z states that the X.M.P. profile of the memory should be: 7.0-7-7-24-34-2T
But my board will only set it to 7.0-7-7-24-89-2T (tRFC = 89 here)
Value tRFC 79 being the lowest stable, and nothing close to Cpu-Z's 34
Is this anything to worry about? how does this affect the memory frequency?
2. On the Memory tab, field Channels # shows "Dual" which is good, but field DC Mode is empty instead of showing "Symmetrical".
Is this a problem?
3. I can't, for the life of me, get the ratio to anything closer to 1:1. 2:8 currently is the best I can.
- Is there anything I can do without completely crippling my system?
- If this isn't possible to reach, can you please write it so I may show the game company?
- How do I change the DRAM frequency, or is it only a result of some calculation with the many timing values and cannot be changed directly?
