  • System Advice (DDR3)

I am trying to decide which RAM would be better balanced (speed/timings) for my system.

My system is a Phenom II X6 1055T with a MSI 890fxa-gd70 motherboard.

The two RAM kits I am looking at are the:

I was looking at the PIS kit due to the higher frequency. I was not sure what kind of timings I could get if I underclocked the RAM to 2000, 1800. I would even go 1600MHz but would have to get some rediculous stable timings to justify it.

Either kit will likely require me to modify the fins on the heatsink to clear my cpu cooler.

I need to order my RAM this week so I have a day or two to figure things out.

Go with the Flare, it will be difficult to reach PIS specs.

So the consensus is that it is unlikely I would be able to achieve tighter timings than the FLARE ram even if I underclocked the PIS to 1800MHz?

Of course, one is DDR3-2200 CL7, the other is DDR3-1800 CL7... much better.
