  • Core i7 4770 memory help

I am confused over what memory I can use with a Core i7 4770. The Intel site says 1333/1600. Can other speeds be used? Can someone recommend some modestly priced G.Skill memory (16gb) for a non gaming machine.

    Intel specs:

Yes, higher speed memory can be used. Thats what Intel Xtreme Memory Profiles are for. You will find those hinted on the product pages of basically all G.SKILL kits above DDR3-1600. Using faster memory is considered overclocking of the integrated memory controller, but almost all Core i7 chips can achieve DDR3-2400.

The Haswell platform has memory dividers for anything up to DDR3-3200 (i wouldn't recommend getting something that high, though).

Most can achieve DDR3-2133; for DDR3-2400, generally a K or X series CPU is necessary. For extreme frequency like DDR3-3000+, it is still not guaranteed the CPU can support it even though a multiplier/divider is available. The maximum overclocking margin of each CPU slightly varies so each user must test to know what theirs is capable of.
