  • BSOD & Memtest86 Errors

I keep getting a random BSOD. (for the past few months)
I'll leave and come home or wake up in the morning with the PC rebooted to the login screen.
Once logged in, the message comes up about a bluescreen occurred.
It can go a few days before it does it again.
I though it might be a driver issues so I updated the video card and sound card drivers.
All other drivers were up to date.
I still had issues so I uninstalled/reinstalled video card drivers.
I didn't think to check the memory (since I've never had memory issues in my life) until yesterday.
    Memtest86 came up with errors.
Does this mean a stick is bad?
Would this most likely be the cause of the BSOD?
I figured I'd ask before making a warranty claim.

I was reading online about Bios memory settings and processor/memory compatibility.
I couldn't find any information on AMD's site about whether or not my memory is compatible with my processor.

I checked my bios settings and have them manually set to what the memory is. (voltage, latency, etc.)

I have 2 sticks of memory installed, I will try to scan with Memtest86 individually to see results.
See results with both sticks in attached JPG.

    My system specs...
    OS = Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Motherboard = ASUS F2A85-M PRO FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD
    RAM = 2 x G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL
    Processor = AMD A8-5600K Trinity 3.6GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7560D AD560KWOHJBOX
Soundcard = Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D THX PCIE Sound Card SB1350
Video Card = ASUS ENGTX560 TI DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Display = 73" Mitsubishi DLP HDTV (HDMI)
    System Overclocked = No

    Thanks for reading.
Any suggestions, other than updating or reinstalling video drivers, are welcome.

    Follow up

There was a BIOS update so I went ahead and updated to the latest revision.

I scanned both identical sticks of 8GB DDR3 individually in the slot the mobo manual said that a single stick configuration should be.
First stick came up with 2 errors and the other stick no errors.
Now I'm wondering if the one stick is bad.
I'm running with out it for now.
    (1 8GB stick only.)

I'll have to wait until I bluescreen or not to see if this makes a difference.
It's pretty much a waiting game.

Should I request an RMA or is it normal to get a couple of errors?

    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks.

Try raising the CPU/NB voltages a tad, maybe up + 0.1) and see if that helps.

        Thanks for the tip.

I couldn't find anything that said CPU/NB voltage.
However, I found and changed the following...

I found under the overclocking section "CPU/NB Load Line Calibration".
The setting is supposed to boost performance and possibly voltage.
I set it to "High". (Auto, Regular, High, Extreme)

There was another setting "CPU/NB Current Capability" and "CPU Current Capability".
I bumped both up to 110%. (100% default)

I'll have to keep an eye on the CPU temps.
        I have a stock fan/heatsink.

        Thanks for the tip.
I'll report back anything I find out.

          System Crashed

Windows froze just after previous post.
I had to change the following back to default...

"CPU/NB Load Line Calibration" = I set it to "High". (Auto, Regular, High, Extreme)
I reset it back to Auto.

            bad stick

Well, after fiddling with the power settings, the computer became unstable.
I reset the settings to auto and default.
I'm still running the system without the stick that showed errors in memtest.
            So far, no BSOD.

I'm tempted to swap out the sticks to see if the BSOD shows up again.
I'd rather just RMA it and just get my PC up and running with 16GB again.
