  • Compatible SODIMM - Dell N7010

    Hello,

    I have a Dell N7010 (Inspiron 17r). I found out it supports 1333 MHz (PC3-10600).
Could you help me to determine if the following SODIMMs are compatible with my laptop.

    DDR3 1600 / PC3-12800
    F3-12800CL11D-8GBSQ
    F3-12800CL11D-8GBSA
    F3-12800CL9D-8GBSQ
    F3-12800CL9D-8GBSK

    DDR3 1333 / PC3-10600
    F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ
    F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ

    I don't intend to get a PC3-12800 / DDR3 1600 but only have it running @ PC3-10600.

That laptop should support DDR3-1333 CL9 only. Even if you get DDR3-1600, it will use the lower DDR3-1333 CL9 profile since CPU/BIOS can not support DDR3-1600 CL11.

    Thank you

      Thanks.

You ARE fast! I am impressed!!!

10666 vs 10600 - the only difference I can get from the spec is the speed. Why is 10666 created?

For all intents and purposes the two are interchangeable - the PC number indicates theoretical bandwidth, there's technical references that go into it, as stated basically they are the same

          Thanks, Tradesman!

Do they make any difference as far as compatibility concerns for N7010?

Doesn't sound like it according to GSkill Tech, I tend to defer to GSkill on laptops as I myself don't really work with them much, too many are very particular w/ DRAM and as you've probably noticed, most laptops for all intents and purposes have locked BIOSs which don't really allow for adjusting timings or voltages which is how one normally gets sticks to play nice. That;s why I didn't jump in when you first posted. Sorry couldn't be more helpful

No prob, TMan. Appreciate any help anyone can offer.

I did a search earlier on 10600 vs 10666. Found a few posts - it seems people are like me gets confused on the difference.

Too bad, GSkill does not sell in store. Otherwise, I can get both and test them out without worrying about return shipping and the restock fee.

I think you'd be good going w/ GSkill Tech, those guys do work w/ laptops (which I why I leave laptops to them)

                  Thanks, TMan!

I found out more about my RAM settings via Speccy.
Right now, I have the Samsung M471B5673FH0-CH9 chips. They are running @ 532.1 MHz, 7/7/7/20/1T.
Now, the interesting part is that there are 5 JEDEC profiles:
                  #1 - 381.0 MHz, 5/5/5/14/19 @ 1.5v
                  #2 - 457.1 MHz, 6/6/6/17/23 @ 1.5v
                  #3 - 533.3 MHz, 7/7/7/20/27 @ 1.5v
                  #4 - 609.5 MHz, 8/8/8/22/30 @ 1.5v
                  #5 - 685.7 MHz, 9/9/9/25/34 @ 1.5v

With my limited knowledge, I am guessing it's using #3 for dual channel to achieve 1066.6 MHz.

From Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM, Samsung is DDR3-1066 / PC3-8500 instead of DDR3-1333 / PC3-10600. I am not sure if it's the mobo's limitation or the RAM limits it to run @ profile 3 - Q: the JEDEC - does it come from the mobo or is that of the RAM?

I also want to double confirm, , that DDR3-1333 / PC3-10600 is going to work with my Dell N7010 before I jumped in to get the kit from newegg.
What happens if I get the 10600 or 10666 kit from newegg and it does not work? Can I exchange it with GSkill here?

I would imagine so, but I'm not GSkill so can't speak for them...and yes it does appear you are running 1066

                        Great, thanks for confirmation.

If, in a one in a million chances, it does not work, can I exchange for another one with GSkill?

I can only guess but believe they would be recpetive to an exchange
