  • Can't mix pair of 2GB with a pair of 4GB?

    Hey all.

I had this in my computer..

    G.SKILL DDR2-1066 PC2-8500 1GBx2
    CL5-5-5-15 2.0v-2.1v

    Today I ADDED..

    G.SKILL DDR2-1066 PC2-8500 2GBx2
    CL5-5-5-15 2.0v-2.1v

    Powered PC on.........Loading Windows.........Blue screen.

Took Out the 1GBx2 and booted fine.

Can you not mix a 2GB pair with a 4GB pair?

I've tried putting them in different ways as well

    1-2-1-2
    2-1-2-1
    2-2-1-1
    1-1-2-2
    1-2-2-1
    2-1-1-2

    No option above booted.

    1-1-0-0 Boots
    2-2-0-0 Boots
    0-0-1-1 Boots
    0-0-2-2 Boots

    So.. What do I do? B/c I can't return the 1GBx2 now.

You will need to raise NB Voltage to 1.40V. The memory controller may be overloaded.

    Thank you

Like in BIOS? I checked the voltage and theyre set at 1.8 automatically.

Yes, in the voltage section (near DRAM Voltage), there is another option for NB Voltage and you will want to set that to 1.40V to stabilize the memory controller. With 4 modules, the memory controller can be overloaded thus causing instability.

        Thank you
