  • problem with F2-6400cl4d and Asus P5K-SE

    Hi everybody,

I have a big problem with memory. I work with a graphical programing software and I often encounter crashes with different error messages (EInvalidPointer and EAccessViolation). After searching the web I found those messages were linked to bad memory allocation. I tried with each stick one by one but bugs remain, so I don't know if the problem comes from memory or from os/BIOS config.
One point: I kept all default settings in BIOS, except for timing (5-5-5-15 at default whereas memory specs are 4-4-4-12); moreover memtest returns no error.

    RAM: F2-6400 cl4d 4x1Go
    Motherboard: Asus P5K-SE LGA775 chipset intel P35
    CPU: intel core2duo E6750 2,66GHz
    OS: XP SP3

Can somebody help me pointing where the trouble comes from?

    Thank you very much,
    Alex

could you tell us the model name?
and for CL4 products, we usually need to add memory voltage to 1.9v-2.1v
    it depends on which model
    thanks

      Hi, thanks for replying,

Model is G.SKILL DDR2 PC2 6400 (4x1Go). Unfortunately there is no voltage control in my BIOS.

After a new session of full tests with memtest v3.3 on each separate stick, I can see many errors. Test starts and returns 10 errors at the beginning then memtest freezes... Following memtest documentation, it can be possible that this memory model is not totally compatible with my motherboard, what do you think about that?

the model name should the F2-6400xxxx-xGBxx
and we tested our memory on ASUS P5K series boards and there's no problem at all
try to run with the timing 5-5-5-15, 'coz it seemed there is no memory voltage option for your motherboard
        thanks

Oups, sorry... the model is F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK (2 sets of memory)

then it needs to add memory voltage to 1.9-2.0v to run 4-4-4-12, it is our rated spec
since you can't add the memory voltage, you'll need to loose the timing to 5-5-5-15 to work
            thanks

OK, I put the timing back to the default value (5-5-5-15). But I still have bugs.

try to test one stick at one time to see if one is defective
if so, please RMA with us
                thanks

                  Hello,
I have tested each stick one by one and each stick returns errors when I set memtest address range to "BIOS-all", but there is no error when I use "BIOS-standard" (testing each stick separately or all sticks)

it seemed it is defective even with default setting
                    so, please RMA with us
                    thanks

OK, thank you for your support.

Can I RMA the sets separately or must I RMA all sticks at once?

we'd recommend you to send back both, 'coz we test dual channel memory together
                        thanks

Actually I use 2 sets of 2x1Go and if I return the 4 sticks at once, I cannot work anymore but if you think that's better to RMA all of them at once...
How long does the RMA is before I get my memory back?

after we received your RMA, usually we would send you the replacement within 5 business days
                            thanks
