  • can I mix ripjaws 16GXL with 8BXL 2133mhz?

    Hi, I have this doubt about mixing memory capacity;

    I have
    [RipjawsX] F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL
    DDR3-2133 (PC3-17000)
    8GB (4GBx2)
    CL11-11-11-30
    1.50v~1.60 Volt

(already installed ASUS Crosshair V formula Z).

    can be mixed with?:

    [RipjawsX] F3-2133C11D-16GXL

    DDR3-2133 (PC3-17000)
    16GB (8GBx2)
    CL11-13-13-31
    1.5 Volt

    Total of 24GB

    Thanks

Only one way to know, test.

We did not test them together at factory so we can not be certain.

You can try it, but there is no guarantee it will work flawlessly (this is also true for all other possible mixed configurations).

If you already bought the memory, i would do the following: Put in the 2x8GB kit, enable the XMP, then power down, add the 2x4GB sticks. If the system does POST and is stable, congratulations. Otherwise you could try to run them together at a lower speed (on AUTO settings or manually tuned) or just sell the 2x4GB kit.

Did you get this mix working? I am waiting for delivery to try the same thing on an ASUS Z77 MB

          OK
I thought I would post results for anyone else who wanted to try this since the original poster did not.

I followed the suggestion above. Removed the 2x4G, Installed the 2X8G and set XMP.
Ran Memtest a while then added back the 2X4G. When I went into the BIOS, there were two XMP profiles though they looked the same so I left it at Profile 1 which is where it was. The DRAM voltage changed from 1.5 to 1.6 so I manually set it back to 1.5.

Ran Memtest 86 for a while again.

          Happy camper!
