  • SSD performance and c-state

    Hi guys

I got some interesting result when I tested SSD.

    when I set CPU configuration__C-state.
    I got different result.

    motherboard: Asus P7-P55D-E
    CPU:I5-750
    AHCI:9.6.0
    SSD:120GBP2 FW_3.1
testing software: HD tune pro benchmark-Read

When I set CPU configuration C-State option

    Enable

    min:157.2MB/S
    max:181.5MB/S

    Disable:

    min:225.3MB/S
    max:240.8MB/S

I try many times and got same result.

sorry, I forgot to take photo and I didn't have time to try the difference between C1, C2, ......

What i am reading is that C-State is similar to the Cool n' Quiet technology that AMD is using...

Are you able to perform the same benchmarks using an AMD machine and Cool n' Quiet?

Otherwise, I will test that tonight on my machine when i get home...

C-State actually starts disabling portions of the cpu core(s) when it detects low/no-load conditions on the processor.

Apparently something it is shutting down is affecting SSD performance at low/no-load cpu conditions.

Where can I set C-state options?

Yes, i got same results on my core I7 975 but it's seems that's only HD tune that is negatively affected by this C-State setting.

Very strange because there is no notables differences with ATTO32 and the Crystaldiskmark 3 gives me finally some better results with C-state active lol ...
need to be tested more times with CDM to be sure at 100 % ...

By default C-State is deactivated in my bios (P6TD dlx asus)
