  • F2-8500CL6D-4GBNQ on a Asus p5q pro

I've read numerous threads and posts about the problem but I'm sitll unable to run the ram at 1066 with cpuid or memset I'm able to see it at 400mhz at 5-5-5-15... Not sure what I'm missing but I'm unable to get a sucessfull boot with any options other then the default.

    Memory: F2-8500CL6D-4GBNQ
    Mobo: Asus P5Q pro
    cpu: p4 550 3.4ghz w/ht

Any help will be appreciated =)

You will need to overclock the FSB to 1066 in order to operate the memory at DDR2-1066.
In BIOS, set Ai Overclock Tuner to Manual.

    CPU Ratio Setting - 13
    FSB Frequency - 266
    DRAM Frequency - DDR2-1066

    DRAM Timing Control - Manual
    CAS Latency - 6
DRAm RAS to CAS - 6
    DRAM RAS Precharge - 6
DRAM RAS Activate to Precharge - 18

    DRAM Voltage - 2.10V

Save and exit, everything should be running smoothly.

Let me know how that goes.

    Thank you

Make sure the AI Overclock Tuner is set to Manual, or the CPU Host Clock Control is Enabled.

It is set to manual. The book that came with the mobo shows how the option should look... but it is not available in bios for me...

hmm, this would default tRD 5 might wanna actually add static read manually to enabled, but that again could be too low also (but hell alot closer than simply dropping to manual) and leave the Ai Tuners alone.

ok to my understanding I have located the problem...
The processor external frequency. is 200Mhz. So 800Mhz is as fast as I can run that memory.....

                correct?

That would be correct as 'ASyncronous' memory speed. 1:2 ratio would be the case. However, on 200Mhz FSB you can increase the memory speed by using different memory multipliers.

                    xtc_link,

That is correct, if you leave the processor external frequency at 200MHz, you will only be able to operate DDR2-800. If you take a look at the settings I listed above, it uses 266Mhz to operate DDR2-1066. The CPU settings must be reconfigured.

                    Thank you

The mobo is a Asus p5q pro
                      ram is gskill 1066

                      The processor is a p4 3.4 550 with a locked multiplier
so in this case there is nothing I can do..

except wait for my core2 for x-mas

You can use 5-5-5-15 memory timings at DDR2-800, that should make up for the lower speed.
