  • Which memory

I currently have 2 memory sticks installed in my pc.
    These are F3-12800CLD9D-4GBRL

I have 2 more open DDR slots.

Can someone tell me which product I would use to give me the max amount of memory.
Also, if I buy to larger mem stick would I need to install them in slots 1&2 & move smaller ones to slots 3&4.
I used to employ an IT guy but now, sadly Im the IT guy.

What mobo and CPU - with four slots mobos are normally a max of 16GB or 32GB, also the CPU can play into how much DRAM you can run

It took some time for me to be able to shut down & check the MOBO.
      The processor is AMD-Athalon II x4 630 2.816hz
      The MOBO is Gigabyte GA770TA-UD3

Also saw this next to memory:
      DDR 1866 + UltraDurable3

      Thanks.

Do you know what your sticks are currently running at? Can check with CPU-Z (free and a new version was just released, can find it here:

        http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

As I guess, I'd say that while you have 1600 sticks they may be running at 1333 or even 1066. Your mobo supports UP TO 1866, but generally speaking would take a newer CPU with a stronger MC (memory controller0. The Athlon II X4 are rated up to 2 sticks at 1333 and with 4 sticks drops to 800, so goo possibles are maybe 2 at 1600 and 4 at 1333 (can see the AMD freq guide here:

        http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...encyguide.aspx

I think I'd suggest a 2x4GB set at 1333 with a CL of 9 - something like the Snipers F3-10666CL9D-8GBSR, there's a host of others available also, I've just found the Snipers to be a good fit with AMD rigs. I'd start with them in the primary slots, get those two stable, the add the other (older sticks, and raise the DRAM voltage to around 1.57 to 1.6 and add + 0.10 to the CPU/NB and give it a whirl

So i received the new RAM today & attempted installation.

I removed old ram & installed the 2 new cards into slots 1 & 2. left old RAM out.
The computer beeped a few times & never booted up. I searched & found that i may not have had the ram seated tightly enough. I removed new RAM & tried just old ram & seated it tightly. Still same problem.
It does not boot at all. Fans run hard drive may be making some noise, but no booting of any type. No way to get into cmos set up.

Maybe i shorted out the slot or something. Anyway to test for that?

                  Tried that.
I believe maybe I blew the processor memory so i just bought a 6 core
Hopefully ill be back up tomorrow

                      I can't get a break, here....
Installed new CPU. Now it wont boot past the motherboard screen.
I know the cpu is acceptable for the mobo.
I wonder if the bios needs update.
Anyway to do that at this point?

Can you try with the old CPU and maybe a single stick of DRAM

I did. I tried every combo of memory stick in every slot with both processors. I just bough the cheapest cpu that will work with that mobo on ebay. I should receiver it next wed.
