Have you tried two Pat modules and two G.Skill?

Bad news is the memory worked fine for us with that motherboard and Core 2 Quad/Duo CPUs.

More bad news is probably the other two slots are defective.

thanks for that. To be honest I only hear good news because when you guys managed I have higher hopes now :-).

Can you provide me with the bios screenshots of this MB with the X9650?

that way I can configure it exactly the same way.

        to your questions:

I have tried with 2 pat and 2 gskill and that did not work. (in all possible combinations)

The slots can't be defective as 4 slots filled with patriot ram work perfectly fine.

would still appreciate those settings that did work in your test labs.

          thanks in advance

Can you post pictures of DRAM Timing Control?

We use Q9300 and E8400 so it is a little different

I have posted this in post nr 6.

I have tried fixed settings as well as the auto.

I would hope/assume that the X9650 is closer to the Q9300 series in settings. Can you post both bios settings so that I can try with either one of them already?

What version of the P5Q-WS do you use?

              Thanks in advance!

There are no major changes other than the basic DRAM settings.

                DRAM Frequency DDR2-800
                DRAM Timings tCL 5- tRCD 5 - tRP 5 - tRAS 15
                DRAM Voltage 1.80V

In addition, change tRFC to the highest value. Command Rate 2.

Let me know how that works.

We only have Turbo model, not WS, but BIOS is written very similarly.

I have basically given up and now have ridiculously expensive pieces of RAM collecting dust.

I was hoping that the experts here would be able to assist but I have only received the same advise I already tried as per my initial posts.

As a last long shot, as you can take from the tone of my post it hasn't worked, but still would want to learn from your expert advise:

                  what would you try next?

                  increase RAM voltage?
                  increase/decrease ...?

would be great if you could give me a list of steps that I should take to troubleshoot and miraculously come to a solution.

I have in the meantime tried everything I could think of and restarted, reconfigured, installed DRAM, removed DRAM, ... 100's of time without any success.

                  Looking forward to your guidance

Maximize the Row Refresh Cycle Time.

Can you post pictures of the DRAM Timing Control page?

                      Thanks for the reply.

attached you can find the requested information.

The only thing I could not change is the DDR frequence to 800. It's autodetected at DDR

This works fine with 2 DIMMS, but same behaviour as before with 4 DIMMS: everything powers on, spins, but no screen and no POST.

As this problem is obviously related to using 4 * 4GB banks, do you think this DRAM CLK skew would help? What settings should we try there?

Any other advice on what to try?

As I have previously asked, it would help if you could post your settings of your bios (even it's not the WS version).

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

DDR2-800 is not available because you overclocked the CPU FSB. Set it to default first to see if you can get the RAM stable.

I have done that in my initial setup of tests.

Will try again, but don't expect a different result.
no point in talking about getting RAM stable if I can't even boot my pc using this RAM. :/

what else can be done / checked?
what about this DRAM CLK skew?

                          what are your bios settings?

                          any other advice?

                            Send an email to techsupport@gskill.com

They are currently have the board so I can not retest it on my end.

                            Thanks

gravedigging as support could not really help me. Haven't tried in a while but might go for a final round of testing.

Really a shame that such expensive piece of hardware is basically useless :/

                              Dear Sir,

We don’t have P5Q-WS but when we test with P5QL-E, which is fine with 800MHz/4GBx4.

And we’re used E1200 CPU/2008.06 BIOS to test, basically set everything by default and tweak the frequency as 800MHz only.

Sorry that we can’t copy your issue at this time, and you tried lots of adjustments as the forum, we have no idea what’s going on.

                              Sorry for the inconvenience

                              Best Regards
