  • F3-2400C9D-8GTXD OC Help

I picked up some used G Skill Tridentx F3-2400C9D-8GTXD.4x4 gb sticks that are 9 11 11 31.They run great but I want to see what these cl 9's will do.Recomendations on OC to 2600 or tighten these up at 2400 appreciated.Any timings and voltage I can try.My motherboard is a Z97 msi mpower max ac with a I7 4790k oc.d to 4.8 with 1.245 v.

For 24/7 most kits should be able to do 2666 10-12-12 around 1.65V with very low tRAS and tight subs. 2666 9-12-12 is also possible, but needs more voltage, probably between 1.75 and 1.8V. For benching the better ones are able to hit 2800/2933 9-12-12 around 1.9-1.95V and keep the subs fairly tight:

    (not my screenshot)

However voltages like that are very close to the absolute max given in the Samsung specs, so there is the risk of damaging your kit with that. Therefore my recommendation would be to aim for 2666 CL10 first and see how that goes and performance compares to XMP settings.

Thanks alot for the info. What would you say is the safe dram voltage to use 24-7 that I should not go over.

For an official answer you would have to G.SKILL Tech about it, but in the end it is something you have to decide on for yourself. For 24/7 i personally would prefer a super tight DDR3-2666 CL10 setting at 1.65v to something that needs crazy volts.

It's a no go.2666 CL10 or CL11 gives me blue screens on windows desktop in 5 seconds. The highest dram volts I went to was 1.720v and sa volts to 1.200v.What about 2400 to tighten up.9-11-11-31 1t is what I have now.Any reccomendations on these settings to tighten with volts to try. Also what secondaries and tertiary memory sub timings should I play with.

Your board has no memory preset for 2x4GB Samsung Double Sided @ DDR3-2666 CL10? The presets usually are a good starting point if you don't wanna figure everything out by yourself. But keep an eye on voltages, since some profiles might use 1.85V and more.

For further tightening down the XMP, you can try the Subs from the screenshot, they are pretty tight even for DDR3-2400. Your bandwidths already look pretty good for DDR3-2400, though.

Does it make a differance that I have 2 kits of this memory.4gb sticks x 4 for 16 gb total.I think I mentioned 4x4 gb sticks. Also,it showes in presets in my bios for 4x4GB Samsung Double Sided @ DDR3-2666 CL10.I tried that one and it blue screned on the desktop.Dram preset volts was 1.650v with cpu-sa volts on auto cpu-io analogue volts on auto and cpu io digital voltage on auto.I will manually input some voltages in here if you reccomend some.1.660v and 1.670v dram volts I tried also with blue screen on the desktop too in 5 to 7 sec or so..

If there are 4x4 presets as well, then try those. For the manual way it easier to check each module or 2x4GB set individually for what subs and voltages it needs for a certain setting like DDR3-2666 CL10. You are basically limited by the worst of those four modules and what it can do.

Also your board might have stronger and weaker memory slots, or might not be able to do CR=1 at DDR3-2600+ like some other MSI models (without tweaking transceivers etc), but that is something you would have to test for yourself.
