Default Phoenix Blade - Overheating

Please can anyone advise... what the correct operational temperature is for a Phoenix Blade 480GB? After 3 hours use tonight I needed to restart my PC, however I had issues where Windows 7 continually crashed during boot and I got BSOD errors due to being unable to write to the Phoenix Blade. The Phoenix Blade felt very hot to the touch. I had to turn my computer off until the Phoenix Blade cooled down. After the Phoenix Blade cooled I was able to get Windows to start again. Please can you advise if high temperatures are normal or is this device faulty?
