  • 1866 Snipers With Xeon?

Model of the motherboard: EVGA X79 Dark
Model of the memory: G.Skill Sniper 1866Mhz
Model of the CPU: Intel Xeon E5 2667

It appears the Xeon does not support 1866 memory as per the intel ark page.
So I think I would need to set them to 1600?

What would be the best settings for the snipers with the Xeon?
just set it to 1600 9-10-9-28-2T or could there be more performance with better timings?

Most Intel CPUs with a DDR3 memory controller (IMC), even the i7 counterparts to your Xeon have "up to DDR3-1600" listed as their official memory specification. While the server chipsets have their memory ratio locked to that spec, that is not the case for the X79, which supports ratios up to DDR3-2400(2933 on some mainboards). So in terms of memory frequency you can use whatever the CPUs IMC and mainboard can handle.

Thanks for the info emissary42, it would seem I was able to just use XMP.
I had never noticed before that Intel listed 1600MHz as the max ram speed for pretty much all of their CPUs.
      Running 9-10-9-28-2T @ 1866 just fine. :-)

        sorry for the double post,

It looks like I was wrong, using XMP it only runs the memory at 1670 MHz...

Xeon CPUs are limited with locked multipliers. Enthusiasts CPUs that end with K or Extreme CPUs that end with X have unlocked multipliers so they can support higher frequencies with a supported motherboard.
