    So I've put together my new computer and have had a ridiculous time trying to get it operational. At first, I had the two 4GB sticks in A2 and B2, which the manual recommends for best overclocking. When I tried to boot the computer, all I got was a black screen and the onboard speaker telling me that there was a RAM failure. I started moving the sticks around and finally got the computer to boot with only one stick in the B2 slot. I managed to install Windows 7 64-bit, update all hardware drivers to their latest versions, and even begin to download some game clients. After a few hours, however, it crashed, returning to a black screen. I've since not been able to get Windows to load. I see the first screen after boot, allowing me to access the BIOS, but if leave it uninterrupted it stops at a plain black screen again. I know the basics of how to adjust timing, voltage, and frequency settings in BIOS. I just CANNOT find the combo that works for this rig. Please help, before I'm forced to stare at this $1000 paperweight any longer.

    Might want to drop to 1600, your 975 may not be up to 1866 sticks. Can follow the instructions in this thread:

    with the exception of the DRAM timings, with this set may want to run 1600 at 8-9-8-28 or for 1866 can try method 2 with stock timings but CPU/NB freq at 2700

      Just out of curiosity, with the math described in Method 2 of that guide, shouldn't the CPU-NB Frequency be set to around 2800? Also, if my CPU wasn't compatible, would it still make sense that I was able to run my computer successfully for a few hours with the DRAM Frequency set to 1866? I mean, it still crashed after a while, but should it even be possible? I'm just wanting to really double check because I hate to not be able to fully utilize the hardware I've purchased. No one to blame but myself if it comes to that, though. I appreciate the help. I'll be testing your suggestions shortly.

        Alright, so I've tested both recommendations and then some. Nothing worked for me, though. It fails to load Windows every time. What CPU-NB Voltage would you recommend and what would be an ideal HT Link Speed for each option? On the plus side, it is recognizing both DIMM slots, now. It shows that I have all 8GB of RAM. Also, the computer boots every time instead of leaving me hanging at a black screen and beeping at me. I assume this should indicate that my MoBo's DIMM slots are not bad and that neither of my sticks of RAM are faulty, either.

          I generally start at 2700 and work my way up (to keep the heat down), sort of same with voltages, for the CPU/NB might start at 1.25 or so and work it up .02 or so at a time.

            I believe I've discovered that my CPU will only support up to DDR3 1333. That would be where my problem lies. So my follow-up question is, is it even possible to underclock 1866 to 1333?

              Should be able to run 1600, with 8-9-8-26 (27), 1.5, 2T then follow the other directions on the thread I referenced before
