    Hello all,

Been tinkering with OCing and working to tweak my system for a while and now that I have finally put it together, decided to go whole-assed and see what this set-up can do.

I have checked out this forum for ideas and tips, searching for the set-up closest to mine. I have plenty of notes and am going to start today. Wish me luck!!

I do have one question.....Windows reports 24Gb of RAM with only 16 usable. I admit I did buy the RAM as 16Gb packages. Does this make a difference? Should I have looked for a 32Gb set instead. CPU-Z does report 32....8 per slot....all the same. I used 3dMark as a benchmark. One pass showed 32Gb and after I restored my CMOS back to default it would not show any RAM. I am hoping that tweaking will correct this, but if not, I'll keep looking.

    Thanks for reading.

Did you manually input all settings? You may need to boost CPU-NB Voltage and/or DRAM Voltage to get the two kits to work at the rated specifications. Or try DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 1.50V to see how that works.

      GSKILL TECH,
I manually set the RAM to 9-9-9-24 as you recommended with no change, then tweaked it to 1600, also no change in how Windows reports the amount I have. The POST screen also shows 16Gb, now at 1600, and I have OCed my cpu to 3.9GHz. Seems to be stable. Ran the 3dMark benchmark; my scored improved a little and this time it reported 32Gb of RAM. I am getting closer, I think.

My cpu has the stock heat-sink and fan and I think I need to upgrade that before I do too much work on voltages. I will try a few tweaks to see how it goes.

      Thanks for your reply.

          Update!!

After tinkering and trying different settings, etc., my board decided enough!! It gave out and I had to get a new board. Couldn't get a 990fxa-ud5 so I picked up a ud3 v4.0. Plugged in all the RAM and it worked perfectly. 32Gb right from the get-go. The old board was v1.0, so I am thinking that was the issue. Won't know for sure unless I can get a ud5 v3.0 or better to try.

As far as the old board, it seems I tried a BIOS that did not support my cpu, so it failed to start. I did find an old cpu, Phenom II, put it together and it started up. Now I have a rig I can practice with before trying with my "good" rig. Win-win, I guess.

Perfect! Glad to hear you got 32GB working properly. Later revision motherboards definitely get upgraded and tend to work better. Enjoy!
