  • Wanting to OC Processor

    Here's my setup:

NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case

    Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z Motherboard

    AMD FX 8350 8-core Processor @ 4.0Ghz

    16GB RAM

    1100watt PSU

2 x XFX R9270X Radeon Graphics Card (Crossfired)

Windows Base Index Score of 7.8

I'm wanting to overclock my Processor from 4.0Ghz to at least 4.5Ghz. . . I'm not sure it can be done, since I am using the Stock Cooler that came with it. If i need a third party cooler, let me know and give me your suggestions. If it can be done, can someone give me tutorial with the motherboard that I have?

You definitely need better cooling for any overclocking to protect your hardware from harm. There are many air coolers like CoolerMaster Hyper212, gemini II or Noctua NH-D14 that are very good for this purpose.

For CPU overclocking, search in Google and you should be able to find some guides. We can surely answer any questions you may have, or provide pointers. In a nutshell, you will raise CPU Ratio to increase frequency, while raising CPU VCore to support and stabilize the overclock. Trial and error test for the best voltage at your desired frequency. Once you find that, the computer will be stable at the higher speed.

    Thank you

The stock cooler does not hold up to this much heat. It still can be done, but you will need a powerful aftermarket cooler. Something like a http://www.phanteks.com/PH-TC14PE.html, http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=p...s_id=64&lng=en or http://www.bequiet.com/de/cpucooler/482 (please check compatibility yourself).

There is a nice guide published @ ASUS ROG community:

      Happy overclocking

Make sure to check side panel clearance if you decide to go with the Phanteks or Noctua, those triple 140mm heatsinks are MASSIVE, had to mount the 200mm side panel fan on my Xigmatek Elysium on the outside of the case in order to fit my Phanteks PH-14TC, the temps are worth it though, I haev the same CPU and the highest I've seen it hit is 65.c after 4 hours of Prime95 (and this was on an 87.f day)

If you don't want to spend $80+ on a CPU cooler the Hyper 212 with a pair of high CFM fans is your best option (around $55~$65 for the cooler and 2 fans)
