  • OverClock Help - Ripjaws Z (8 x 8GB) DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)

    i7 3930k with 4.3GHz overclock
    Asus P9x79WS
    Asus GTX670-DC2OG-2GD5
    Windows 7 Pro
    Corsair H80i

BIOS enabled XMP 2133 at 1.5V. I've run Prime95 for 24 hours. When ambient temp got to about 90F the 6 cores varied from about 71F to 77F. When ambient temp was around 72F the 6 cores varied from aobut 59F to 66F. I'm working on boosting my cooling. Then I think I can pass Prime95 at 4.6GHz.

How can I get to 2400 or better? I selected it in the BIOS but it won't even boot.

Suggested timings and voltages? Then adjustment tweaks?

    Thanks.

To try and take those to 2400 I'd start with 12-12-12-33, 2T, DRAM voltage 1.6, VCCSA 1.25 and MC voltage 1.2

          Okay. I'll try these tonight.

I guess if these don't work I should try to maybe increase the voltage to maybe 1.65.
If this doesn't work try and increase the VCCSA to 1.26 and or the MC to 1.23, etc.

          I'll let you know tomorrow.

          Thanks.

Sounds like a plan, I'll be in and out, hoping your 3930K can carry 2400 (fingers crossed) many, if not most have problems

Two last points: in BIOS, should I select XMP or Manual or Auto? And do I need to increase my CPU overclock? My overclock is simple: 100MHz x 43, core - 1.39V, VCCSA - 1.2V, RAM - 1.5V, RAM - 1.5V, VTT - 1.2V.

I was also thinking that I am not going to make too much effort on this RAM overclock because the gains will most likely be small to negligible.

And I was thinking that GSkill probably squeezed as much speed out of these DIMMs as they could to guarantee 2133. So there might not be much left.

Give me a day or so.

              Thanks.

I have the same memory on a RIVE, it runs XMP profile 1 and 2 fine on 3930k at 4.8g vtt 1.250 vccsa 1.100. It runs upto 2250mhz at those voltages still at 1.5vdimm.

Now using a 3820 at 5.0g but the 125 bus ratio puts ram at 2000 or 2333mhz. it will boot at 2333mhz 11-12-12-31at 1.5vdimm 1.25vtt 1.125vssca (these being the voltages i had 5.0g running 2000mhz)
It past spi 1m and ran 3dmark vantage but it isn't stable in memtest 86+, I have tried 1.575vdimm and bumped vtt to 1.275 vccsa to 1.15 but it still isn't stable better but not stable.

How much vdimm can i put into the ram given that I can't really use the fans on the RIVE due to clearance to the back of the videocard?
Seems 2400mhz kits all use 1.65vdimm so i guess that would be safe?

                  Thanks

                  Nico

I normally say + 0.10 though I've, like you suggest, have taken the sticks up + 0.15 with no ill effects
