  • Hi - 990FXA-UD3 + fx8350 + 2*(f3-2400c10d-16gtx) wtd?

    Hi

    As in the title:

    cpu - FX-8350 @ 4.5ghz + corsair h100i
    mobo - gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 rev 3.0
    vga - zotac 680gtx (stock)
    hd - sandisk ssd240gb ultra + 1tb +1.5tb +2tb
    power - xfx 850w semi

    currently: 2x4gb corsair 1600mhz xms2

    I have in my hands 2x(2x8gb) G.Skill 2400mhz.

As I took a walk trough the forum, CPU goes as fast as 1866mhz (no oc) win only one per channel. My mobo website says it can 2000mhz OC, and some high clocks downclocked to 2000mhz, all dual-channel supported.(they do have a warning like: only one dimm per channel is supported for ddr3-1866mhz and higher speed as using am3+ cpu, but the tables have dual-channel on 1866mhz or higher checked)

    So, my thoughts are:

    1 - low the clock to 2000mhz
2 - low the timings to something to compensate.

    So, what can I do?

ps: English is not my mother tongue. Bear with me.
ps2: I will get home only by 17th, but I want to get prepared.
ps3: Quantity may win over speed :/
    My Rig:

    - FX-8350
    - Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3

I think you'll be lucky to get all 4 sticks to run at 1866, and stunned if you get them any above that. We can suggest things to try, but honestly if you want fast memory (1866+) then I suggest you only use 1 kit and sell the other. Amd is WAY behind on Memory Controllers right now. I'm not sure how much you'd have to slow down to fill all 4 slots, 1600 could even be a stretch. I do have to ask what you're doing that requires 32GB? Nothing short of LOTS of video editing, or like 15 Virtual Machines would ever require that much. If you're just trying to game or something similar, then certainly only use 16GB as this will give you a better chance at running faster (also don't use slots 1-3 or 2-4, put them in 1-2 or 3-4 to give you a better chance.

Anything above 1600 is a pure OC for an AMD rig so it will be a lot of trial and Error and blue screens till you get it figured out

Route 1) enable ASUS D.O.C.P. then chose Profile1 (this should get you XMP settings)

      if that fails

Route 2a) set memory speed to DDR3-2133 and main timings to 9-10-10-27
Route 2b) set memory speed to DDR3-1866 and main timings to 8-9-9-24

A Vdimm of 1.50V should be enough for both of these settings, but you might want to start with a little bit of headroom to spare and then decrease it in small steps ( 1.60V --> 1.58V --> 1.56V ...).

Here is the guide for DDR3-1866:

        http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=11742

Once you do this, you can work up to DDR3-2000 or DDR3-2133 and lower timings.

I have GA-990FXA-UD3 rev 4.0 and after a ticket to Gigabyte they gave me a BIOS that does not exist to their site for download. If you want I can give it to you, it is the F4 beta.
