  • Bunch of BSOD-s on Biostar TA790GXBE with G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK

Hello, Im new on this forum and firstawall I want to apologize if I opened same problem becouse Im in hurry and have big problems with my new PC.

    Last year I bought 2x2GB G. Skill 1066Mhz DDR2 F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK memory modules.
Then I have MSI P45-NEO2-FR and Intel E5200 and when I install that memory after 2 months two (green) of four memory slots died suddenly.

    Last month i bought new motherboard /Biostar TA790GXBE/ and processor /AMD Phenom II x4 965 AM3 - C3/.
When I assembled my new PC and install Win 7 64 bit in two days I recieved about 20 BSOD-s.
I recieved Bsod-s mostly when Im playing games after 10 minutes or less, and when I work in Windows.

    Mostly is dxgmms1.sys, Ntfs.sys, tcpip.sys, nvlddmkm.sys etc.

When i bought Biostar TA790GXBE motherboard I checked and its seems that this RAM supports AMD 790 chipset.

Then I flashed Bios on motherboard on 78DGA902.BST DATE 09/02/2009, and that doesnt resolve my problems with BSOD-s.

Then I run memtest version 4.00 and in four atempts they suddenly stopped on random progress and cant finished testing.

Then I remove G.Skill memory and put 2x1GB Transcend DDR2 667Mhz and all working well, so I assumed there is problem with G. Skill memory compatibility with Biostar TA790GXBE.

Is there anything I can do with this memory modules, Bios adjustments?

    Please I need help.

DEFAULT BIOS RAM SET IS 800Mh 5-5-5-15 Unganged.

    I have this PC configuration:

BIOSTAR 790GXBE (Bios update, supporting C3 versions)
    AMD PHENOM II X4 965 - C3 version
    2x2GB DDR2 1066 MHZ G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK
    GAINWARD 250 GTS 512 DDR3
    WESTERN DIGITAL 500 GB SATA
    SILVERSTONE 600 W

P.S. Excuse me for my bad English...

    NB Frequency x11 2200MHz
    DRAM Frequency DDR2-1066

    DRAM Timings tCL 5 - tRCD 5 - tRP 5 - tRAS 15 - Command Rate 2

    CPU-NB Voltage +0.1V
    DRAM Voltage 2.10V

You may also want to test them individually to make sure none are defective.

This setting should work as well, many people find it better than DDR2-1066 CL5.

    DRAM Frequency DDR2-800

    DRAM Timings tCL 4 - tRCD 4 - tRP 4 - tRAS 12 - Command Rate 2

    DRAM Voltage 2.00V

    Thank you

      Thanks for reply.

Meanwhile I removed memory to second two slots and all works fine for couple of hours.

Maybe memory is overheating because is too close cpu cooler.

      Great support and thank you.

Hi again, recently I restore bios to default, and have again same problems.

Bios is up to date, CPU at default.

        Settings
        NB Frequency x11 - 2200 MHz
        CPU-NB Voltage + 0,1V
        DRAM Voltage 2,10 V

        1066 MHz 5-5-5-15-2T @ 2,15 V can't pass Memtest+

        800 MHz 4-4-4-12-2T @ 1,95 V doesn't resolve problems and can't pass Memtest+.

        Tried several scenarios without success:
        800 Mhz-4-4-4-12-2T @1,95 V
        800 Mhz-4-4-4-12-2T @2,05 V
        800 Mhz-4-4-4-12-2T @2,15 V

        800 Mhz-5-5-5-15-2T @1,95 V
        800 Mhz-5-5-5-15-2T @2,05 V
        800 Mhz-5-5-5-15-2T @2,15 V

        1066 MHz 5-5-5-15-2T@2,05 V
        1066 MHz 5-5-5-15-2T@2,15 V

Non of above settings can't pass Memtest+

2GB Kingmax 800 MHz 5-5-5-18-2T @1.95 V works OK without errors or other problems.

        What to do?

Try one stick at a time to see if it can pass. Maybe there is a defective module.

Hi, I'm very glad for your response.

I tested memory a few days and found that memory works just fine without problems at speed of 667MHz - 5-5-5-13-20-1T @ 1.95 V without raising the memory voltage, CPU-NB voltage and NB frequency. At these speeds past the 20 passages Intel Burn Test and 9 passages Memtest86 +.
This indicates that the memory is correct, if I'm right?

I tested memory together and separately and it works fine at 667 MHz, but anything above 667 MHZ can not pass Memtest.

I think that is not defective, just need additional settings in the DRAM Timing Mode: DCT 0 & DCT1 but I don't know which one.

Here are pictures of my bios, can you give me advice what should need to set into DCT settings?

Use a program like RAMMon to display all SPD values

Here are Rammon report, HWiNFO report and screenshots CPUZ.

                  Bios settings:
                  Memory 800 MHz 4-4-4-12-2T @2.05V (2.032V)

                  CPU-NB Voltage +0.100
                  NB frequency 2200 MHz
I rised HT Voltage 1.20 V to 1.30 V (I read here on forum suggestions to set HT voltage 1.40 is that safe and would help?)

                  Thanks for helping.

Definitely only suspect are Bios DCT latency, something is wrong, and Bios is uninformative and can't see current DCT latency besides AUTO settings.

I run Memtest 11 hours on 800 MHz 4-4-4-13-2T @2.05 everything fine, till 12 pass shows errors after 11,30 hours of testing.
Then I run 800 MHz 4-4-4-14-2T @2.05 and passes Intel Burn test 20 runs without problems, don't have time to do long Memtest run. In first 2 hours there are no errors.

I belive bios DCT adjustments are wrong.

Did you look at the reports and latency, any further suggest?

How are the results with one module at a time?

Are you using same color slots furthest away from the CPU?

Both or separate testing fails, Memtest86+ ver 4.20 shows errors on speed 800 MHz whichever latency I choose 4-4-4-12/2T or 5-5-5-15/2T.

                          I put everything you suggest:
                          NB Frequency x11 - 2200 MHz
                          NB-CPU Overvoltage +0,100
                          even HT Overvoltage - 1.40
                          Tried memory on 1.95 V, 2.05 V and 2.15 V without any success.

Nothing works, memtest show errors mostly on 5th test.

Memory sticks are in 2 greens memory slots, further from CPU cooler.

I am not interested in 1066 MHz, I will be satisfied with 800 MHz, but PC freezes, recieves random BSODs, mostly in games etc.

Memory works together or separate without any problem in all slots on 667 MHz, everything on AUTO 5-5-5-13-1T@1.95V without adding NB Frequency, NB CPU Overvoltage, HT Overvoltage.
Also memory works on 200 MHz, without problems, but this is 1066 MHz memory, I don't want to use it on slowest speed.

I don't know it's memory fault or motherboard memory controller is not working properly and sets the wrong DCT values.

                          Have you seen my attachments?
I believe it can work on 800 MHz but needs DCT adjustments.

                          Please give me further advice.

Have you tried DDR2-800 without all the Voltage increases? Those settings should work fine with DRAM Voltage 2.0V alone
