  • Time to RMA?

I'm using 8GB's of Ripjaws DDR3-2000 (F3-16000CL9D-4GBRH). I have them paired with a Maximus III Formula and i7-860.

If I use the XMP profile and leave all settings as the motherboard sets them, I get tons of errors. I tried doing things manually. I've tried running these sticks at DDR3-1600, DDR3-1800, and DDR3-2000. Errors no matter what. I've tried timings of 9-9-9-24 (1n, 2n, 3n). I tried 9-9-9-27 (1n, 2n, 3n). I've tried every voltage starting with 1.51, all the way up to 1.65. I've tried various combinations with the sticks. I pulled two sticks and still got errors. I swapped to the sticks I pulled out, still getting errors. I tried mixing the sticks...errors still. The only thing I haven't tried is 1 stick at a time...and frankly, I'm sick of trying things. As a first time Gskill user, I'm pretty disappointed...

Maybe I'm missing something? If not, just wondering how I go about getting the RMA process under way?

    Thanks,

Set your IMC Voltage to 1.50v (you might be able to lower this a little later once we get stable)
Set your DRAM Voltage to 1.65v
Set your CPU PLL Voltage to 1.86v
Set your DRAM REF Cycle Time to 90 or 100
    Retest

1.50v IMC voltage seems excessively to high to me. After reading around on this forum it seems like other people with this board have had some RAM issues (not sure if it's the RAM, the motherboard, or the combination of the two). I did notice multiple threads where someone from Gskill has said that the ram should work without issue using the XMP profile, which this stuff does not. I also read that I would need to run 2n if I'm using 8GB's, which I have tried. I've tried a ton of other options as well, but I don't know that running an IMC of 1.5 is safe. I don't want to hurt the CPU in the process of diagnosing a RAM issue...

I tried the above settings with the exception of 1.50v IMC. I left the IMC at auto. Still no luck. I guess what I would like is if G.Skill can post the "stock" settings for running this RAM at DDR3-2000. What DRAM Voltage? IMC Voltage? PLL Voltage? Timings, 9-9-9-24? 9-9-9-27? (1n? 2n? and what DRAM ref cycle time?)?

Not sure that it makes a difference but I'm running BIOS 1801. I originally had 1706 on the machine, but due to a LAN issue I flashed up to 1801. Maybe should I try the 2001 BIOS? Anyone with this board and RAM combo suggest which BIOS version to run?

Ok. I had some time to kill this afternoon and I thought I would give flashing the BIOS to the 2001 bios a shot. Since flashing the BIOS, I've been able to get the RAM to pass memtest, and the machine is currently working on 20 passes of LinX (on test 16 now). Running at DDR3-2000, 9-9-9-24-2n @ 1.60v.

So, MIIIF users beware. If your using this RAM I would urge you to stay away from BIOS version 1801.

Always update to the latest BIOS if you have issues. ;-)
