  • Asus P6X58D and 12GB F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ not all detected

Long post, apologies in advance want to supply all the info....

Each boot of my machine seems to detect a random amount of ram somewhere between 2GB and the full 12GB. I have two 6GB kits (total of 6 x 2Gb sticks) of RAM in my Asus P6X58D Premium.

I built the machine about a week ago and on first boot all 12GB showed up in POST and Windows with all BIOS setting at default. The next few boots were also fine. I noticed that the RAM was running at 1035 and any attempt to raise that causes less than the full amount to be detected. Resetting the DRAM Freq back to the lowest setting or AUTO (sets lowest automatically) will eventually allow the whole amount to be detected, usually only after several reboots, after unplugging the PSU, popping the mobo battery, cycling the power switch unplugged to discharge any residuals, swapping the RAM out to different slots and holding the mobo reset switch and rolling up one trouser leg and I'd eventually get back to 12GB showing in POST (after boots with 2GB to 10GB and everything in between being detected).

Once 12GB is detected (at lowest DRAM) the machine is perfectly stable and holds mild o/c fine with good voltage and temps with the RAM timings set manually (9-9-9-24) , BCLK 172, vcore 1.2v, VDIMM 1.5v (in accordance with RAM specs) it ran prime95 for 7 hours, LinX for 2 hours at 3.61GHz 1.2v vcore without errors.

I've also ran Memtest86+ with all 12GB in and again no errors.

Then on reboot after memtest - 8GB detected!

I've tried raising the QPI voltage as high as 1.4v and I've tried raising the tRFC from 59 (AUTO setting) to 74 or even 88 but nothing seems to work.

    Please help GSKILL TECH!

Enable the XMP Profile and see how that goes.

    Thank you

I enabled XMP and set everything else to AUTO. On next reboot only 8GB detected in BIOS which is the same as before I set the XMP. It's as though it 'remembers' how much RAM it detected the previous time.

Should I be doing something to reset it like swapping the sticks out physically to different slots?

Try switching, make sure they are firmly pressed down. If you continue to have the same problems, simply send them in for new replacements and the new set should work just fine.

Problem solved, 12GB Corsair Dominator C8's now installed, all detected every boot and running happily at 1700 and a 4GHz overclock. Thanks for trying to help though.

              Same problem

              Dear Paleblue,

I've got the same problem. 12gb ram installed but recognized as 8GB. I have i7-950, on asus p6x85d. Did you changed any option in bios?

Any help would be really appreciated, I spent hours on this.

              Thank you,

                Alaki,

Which memory kit do you have? Please look into the sticky regarding this problem on the main DDR3 page.

                Thank you

                  Alaki,

Hi, I also spent hours on this problem, almost two weeks in fact. I RMA'd the two RAM kits and got sent replacements which did the exact same thing. In the end I RMA'd them and got the different brand of RAM which just worked perfectly first time and now nine months later are still working perfectly having never missed a beat.

I hope you manage to figure out how best to solve your problem.

                  regards
                  Paleblue
