  • F2-8500CL5-2GBPI-B at 1066MHz + Asus M4A78-E

    Model of the motherboard: Asus M4A78-E
    Model of the memory: G.Skill F2-8500CL5-2GBPI-B
    Model of the CPU: AMD Phenom XII 550 BE

    After some time my PC crashes when running this memory at 1066MHz.
    At 800MHz it is stable.

    The timings i have set are:

    CAS Latency (CL) 5.0
    RAS# to CAS# Delay (tRCD) 5
    RAS# Precharge (tRP) 5
    Cycle time (tRAS) 15
    Bank Cycle times (tRC) 41
    Command rate (CR) 2T
    Voltage (V) 2.100

    I know that reccommended setting for tRC is 48 but my MB can't set tRC higher then 41, is there an alternative ?

    Enter BIOS and go to the AI Tweaker Menu


    Scroll down to CPU/NB Voltage and add +.025v
    Scroll down to DRAM Voltage and set it at 2.06V
    Scroll down to NB Voltage and set it at 1.40v

    Press F10 to save changes and exit BIOS.

    Test memory for eight hours using Memtest 86+ version 4.10

    If none of this works because of the tRC limitation of your BIOS you may need to use a third party tool like Memset to change the tRC in the Windows environment.

      NB Voltage should be fine on AUTO. Although increasing HT Voltage (if available) may help.

      For DDR2-800 to 900, you can use 4-4-4-12 timings and it would be just as quick as DDR2-1066 CL5.

          i think i solved it

          Thank you for your suggestions, if this current setup fails i will try yours suggestions.

          This is how i solved it:

          0. (very important) re flash your BIOS
          1. (also very important) disable UMA+SIDEPORT.
          2. Set Frequency to 1066mhZ
          2. Timings: 2T 5-5-5-15 (tRC = 32 (that's the default value; just leave it default))
          3. DDRAM Voltage = 2.10 V

          I have tested it with prime95 and AOD.
          For some reason re flashing the bios solved the error during the tests.

            mabasic,

            i wanted to reinforce a very important part of your problem solving - flashing to the latest BIOS revision level.

            this should be a first step when upgrading hardware. technology is changing so fast that the latest and greatest hardware support has to constantly be coded into the latest BIOS releases.

            so for anyone having stability or compatibility problems, one of the first things I recommend is checking your current BIOS revision and updating it if there is a newer one available from your motherboard mfg.

              Well, I finally had some time to field test system stability and the good thing is that windows runs great, no problems. Only memory demanding apps crash sometimes. And when one app crashes prime95 reports hardware failure from then on until I restart my PC.

              Now I'm running my memory at 800Mhz with 4-4-4-12 as you suggested. I have left the voltage at 1.8V and it's stable.
              Should I increase it to 1.9V ? I have read that with those timings goes 1.9V.

                Try DRAM voltage at 1.86v first and see if that is stable. If not go ahead and bump it up to 1.9v

                  I have tried it at 1.86V as you suggested, but after some time windows crashed so i set the voltage to 1.9V and now it's stable.
