  • How many wipes of the drive, with wiper.exe, does it take?

this review for the intel ssd drive made an interesting point that he was getting poor performance using ATTO bench until he used "eraser v5.86a" and he elected for the 7 wipes...here is the link. (takes you to the specific page)

i will add that i was suffering similar results on my two gskill 128 gb drives until i just accidentally (kept plugging away at wiping) happen to find better performance once i did at least 7 wipes...these wipes were not done in sequence...i did one here, one there and so forth.

i hope this might help those who are unhappy with the performance to date for their individual or multiple drives, like in my case. (happy camper now)

How did you run the wiper application. I tried it by double clicking but nothing happened so I used CMD to do it, but it gave me this message shown in the following picture.

i ran it from a folder...make sure you are the administrator so you do not have any issues with the level of opening programs.

also, click on the properties of the program to see if it's being blocked since you downloaded it from the website.

check your virus protector to see if you have it set up to block any programs from being run because of fear that the program might contain a virus/trojan horse.

i ran mine from windows xp 64 bit and vista 32 bit; it ran fine.

did you partition and format the drive before hand (recommend doing quick format)?

When I got the SSD, I instantly did a clean install with Vista ultimate 64 bit. And yes, when I created a partition before installing, I did format the drive and just one partition C:

I'm sure that I'm the admin, plus I can right click and choose run as admin. I did all that but still couldn't run.

BTW, HD tune is showing that my falcon 128GB SSD only has 32MB cache, yours?

vista 64 bit OS might be your problem..can you install 32 bit vista to see if it will work with that OS?

if you run the wiper program on the installed 64 bit OS, especially the 64 bit, you take a chance of damaging the installed OS, and you might not be able to boot the next time around.

don't forget to turn off UAC..i presime you did.

            wiper works fine on win64

You just need to be using AHCI mode. NOT 'Legacy IDE' and NOT RAID (there are no solutions for raid that support TRIM yet)

i just installed vista 64 with sp1 and it errored out and then froze the whole system.

when you say win64, you need to be specific about the OS because there is such a thing as win xp 64 bit.

I'm using HD tune 2.55. But some people said it's a software bug so hopefully the new firmware would take care of that issue.

the rumor has it that OCZ will release 1571 on Monday. Since it's the same controller with both OCZ vertex and G.Skill Falcon. Guess it won't be too long before G.sill releases its own. Besides, we can see if the OCZ version has flaws or not. haha

i've looked at HDTune 2.55 and i can not see what you are referring to about the cache size...i looked on all the tabs...didn't see it unless i am going blind!

be careful to not get the temptation to flash with that software...there could be enough difference to harm your drive...be patient.

You will need HD Tune Pro 3.5. It is under the info tab.

I receive the same error as Don.

"No drive installed proper firmware found"

I'm running Vista 64-bit and I know the wiper post said that it would be best to run under 32-bit. However, why does the wiper post even allude to compatibility with a 64-bit OS if it doesn't work properly under it? How is one supposed to use this tool if using a 64-bit OS? Are there plans to address this issue so that users of Vista 64-bit are not without this tool.

                            Thanks
