  • 1819 information please

are these limitations still applicable to this release?

    Note:
    a.
    b. The F/W upgrade program cannot work on AHCI/SCSI/RAID/PATA to SATA Bridge host controller.
    c. The SSD data is fully erased
    d. The F/W upgrade program cannot work for O.S boot drive.

If so how can I flash a drive that does contain the OS and is AHCI?

Do I remove the drive in a caddy and flash it from another computer?

A bit of information would be helpful

I dont think it matters with regards to AHCI or IDE mode, but I would, for the sake of safety, perform the upgrade only in IDE mode. The last upgrade (1571) however, I used AHCI and had no problems.

The post GSKILL make clearly states that you cannot install the upgrade from an OS on that drive that you are upgrading. The jumper is required which means you cannot boot from the drive.

The post also states that ALL partitions will be erased. Meaning, you WILL have to back up, and reinstall an OS after the upgrade.

Thanks, so in my case I have a Falcon 128 as my primary drive with OS and no partitions.

I am thinking the only way I can do this upgrade is to remove the Falcon after I have cloned the drive, then put it in a USB caddy after setting the jumpers, plug it into a computer that has the flash program and flash the falcon that way.

Please tell me this is correct? after flashing I put the drive back in then clone it back!

djmorgan, that is correct. Unfortunately it's not a very user friendly way of doing things, but thats the only way to do it. You surely must have another hard drive you can create a partition on and install windows there temporarily so you can upgrade the SSD?

Rick, not sure about BGGC. Trim is at least in.

I have the update installed and Win7 on and running, everything feels a little more snappier and Im glad I went through the effort

I have a netbook with Win7 I can conect it to that via USB and flash from the netbook then put the drive back and clone the drive from my second HDD in the laptop.
They sure don't make it easy..... and I don't want to be first as I guess noboddy else does so it's going to be a waiting game to see who blinks first :-)

Ive already done the firmware upgrade and had excellent results!

                Single drive.
EDIT: I will say this, I updated from an OS installed in AHCI mode. Also, I had to run both the "Upgrade_AP" and "devcon" files as administrator before the program recognised the drive.

Did you check that Win7 was sending trim commands now?

Ok, if it wasnt enabled by default, I just enabled it with the DisableDeleteNotify = 0 command.

CrystalDiskInfo is reporting that TRIM is enabled.

                      Have a read here http://blogs.msdn.com/e7/archive/200...rives-and.aspx
short way in a command line type
                      fsutil behavior QUERY DisableDeleteNotify

if a 1 then it's off if 0 it's on, yes seems backwards but it's not

As far I know, Trim command is useless in RAID configurations, like mine. And they promised to get BGGC in this firmware.

Well, until GSKILL come out and actually confirm BGGC in this firmware, all we have to go on is that it is already in, as mentioned by them previously here:

                          http://gskill.us/forum/announcement.php?f=9

Try it out and see if it improves your raid experience :P

                            1) how can I check if TRIM is working?

                            2) I heard Windows 7 detects your SSD and automatically disables certain features such as Automatic defragmentation etc...but mine doesn't automatically disable these settings and I still have to manually do them...is this happening for other Falcon SSD/Windows 7 users?

                            3) if FW 1819 is a dud can I switch back to an older FW with no issues (FW 1571)?

                            4) is Garbage Collection included in this firmware for non Windows 7 users?

massive performance drop after upgrading to the latest firmware....
Anyone experiencing the same issues ?

4K used to be like 34/13, now is 26/9, and max speed now tops at about 210Mo/s instead of 255Mo/s.
