  • Is G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX considered to be on the Asus Crosshair VI Extreme QVL?

I have G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX memory and I am unable to run it at 3200MHz therefore I've contacted Asus Support but have been told that my memory is not listed on the QVL.

On the Asus ROG forums I've been told several times that my memory IS on the QVL for the Asus Crosshair VI Extreme motherboard.

The third line of the QVL lists F4-3200C14D-16GTZ as compatible and running at 3200MHz.

I am I right in the assumption that my G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX modules can be for all purposes of the QVL considered to be the same and at least as compatible as the F4-3200C14D-16GTZ listed?

According to your FAQ here http://www.gskill.com/en/faq/DRAM_Memory
    under "What is G.SKILL memory’s naming convention/nomenclature?"
the prefix F4-3200C14D-16GTZ fully determines the memory type (i.e. the Samsung B-Die chips used)
the R at the end only declares that the memory provides RGB LEDs
the X at the end only declares that the memory is "Optimized for the AMD Ryzen"

I believe that neither RGB light nor "Optimization for Ryzen" makes the same memory chips less able to run at 3200MHz or less compatible with Asus Crosshair VI Extreme. Quite on the contrary I expect the memory with the X suffix to have been more thoroughly tested for Ryzen compatibility and thus expected to be running at least as good if not better as the non-X modules.

What settings did you use in BIOS? Did you enable DOCP?

QVL is based on what the company has tested, based on their testing guidelines. Manufacturers are unable to test every single model or hardware combination on the market, so there will be some missing. The RAM you purchased should be compatible with a capable CPU.

Do you have the latest BIOS for the motherboard?

My settings are listed here: Setting up G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX

I've tried everything suggested here and on the Asus ROG Forums:

Culprit motherboard, CPU (IMC) or RAM
      Bootability with G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX (BUG)

I've tried both DOCP and manual settings but it does never boot at 3200MHz, most often not at 3066MHz and often neither on 2933MHz. Sometimes I am unable to boot at even lower frequencies.

I've tried the following BIOS versions with the same results: Beta 3101, 3008, 1701

The conclusion on the Asus ROG forums is that the motherboard is most likely the culprit and I should be eligible to request a RMA as the memory is advertised on the QVL as supported and it does not work with it.

Therefore I am asking your opinion whether the chips on my memorykit are the same or superior to those that are listed on QVL as supported as IMHO the RX suffix should not be the sole reason for incompatibility and refusal of RMA of a faulty board.

Am I wrong in the assumption that G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX is the same memory as G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZ only with more rigorous testing and RGB? Could it be that G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX is less compatible with the Asus Crosshair VI Extreme motherboard?

Do you think the CPU (IMC) could be the culprit?

There is surely no compatibility issue with either memory model you mentioned.

What results can you achieve with a single module?

CPU IMC would be the main suspect as it seems like the motherboard does work.

Neither of the 2 modules boots with the board at 3200MHz.

After 80 hours of waiting and arguing that it's the same memory only with RGB and Ryzen optimization the only reply I've got from Asus support was:

          "Your memory is G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX ,not G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZ"

I can confirm that the CPU IMC was indeed the culprit.

I have RMAed the CPU yesterday and today got a new one. The motherboard boots up with 3200MHz DOCP without any problems and AIDA64 System Stability Test is running for 40minutes already without any issues.

I would like to suggest that you add G.Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX to your ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme QVL as I can confirm that it works with the motherboard flawlessly.

This is my first G.Skill memory (I've been buying Corsair before) and I am very satisfied with it!

            Thanks.
