    Hi,

I am a newbie and have spent most of today researching my RAM upgrade. I have used G Skill's RAM Configurator and cannot find my motherboard. I have researched this forum and do not find my mobo. I appreciate the opportunity to ask for assistance. I have a Dell XPS 8300 Desktop. The motherboard, chipset and memory info are in the title.

I did determine as mentioned in this forum elsewhere that the Dell BIOS cannot be edited. Based on this I have contacted Crucial and Kingston to determine their opinion as to a compatible RAM module.

Crucial recommended only the Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3-1600 UDIMM CT5288923. They state their RAM can automatically slow to 1333 MHz and be compatible, therefore the BIOS change is not required.

Kingston recommended only their 4GB Module - DDR3 1333MHz, Part Number: KTD-XPS730BS/4G, Specs: DDR3, 1333MHz, Non-ECC, CL9, 1R, X8, 1.5V, Unbuffered, DIMM, 240-pin module. This module is specific to the Dell 8300 and supports the compatibility issue with this desktop and third party RAM.

I appreciate a response as to which G Skill module will perform well in a Dell 8300. Also, does G Skill automatically down-speed eliminating the problem with not being able to edit the BIOS?

    Here is a good model:

    F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT

i5-2400 CPU can support DDR3-1333 no problem.

Thanks for the response. I will be purchasing this RAM soon to use in my Dell. I will also be building my own PC next time to avoid Dell's less than satisfactory builds.

I have reviewed the F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT RAM. I noticed the command rate is 2T on my existing RAM. The G Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT is 2N. I will be replacing all existing sticks with the same G Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT sticks for a total of 16 GB. Will the command rate difference be an issue? And would a dual/quad channel RAM be compatible with my Dell 8300 which uses dual channel only? Thanks for tour time.
