  • AMD Memory Profiles

Is G.Skill ever going to get on board with is or is it too expensive to spend the man hours testing for certification? Could you estimate how much $ increase for an AMP certified kit? I remember the Flares cost a lot at the time. It seems like the Radeon branded memory (with AMP) costs an arm and a leg for mediocre speed/timings compared to equivalent G.Skill (without AMP). I'm just curious.

The current XMP and existing memory profiles work just fine with AMD motherboards that can support the RAM spec. For example, with a FX CPU and good motherboard, DDR3-1866 can be had without much tweaking. This is the maximum DRAM frequency value for any AMD CPU on the market, so anything higher will still require manual settings.

    Thank you

You are slightly mistaken GSKILL TECH (actually all the way mistaken)

A8-6800K was the first AMD processor to support DDR3-2133, and it has been on the market for quite some time.

      A10-7850K and A10-7700K support DDR3-2133.

ASRock is already supporting AMD Memory Profile for DDR3-2400.

AMD is even selling Radeon branded DDR3-2400 with AMP.

You know as well as I do that often the XMP settings do not play nice with AMD processors when going high speed.

I'm just curious as to how much more effort it really takes to certify an AMD Memory Profile and whether or not we will ever see this on G.Skill memory. If the answer is that you don't know at this time, that's fine. I'm just curious as to how tedious it would be to make it happen.

      Thanks in advance,

damric (owner of countless G.skill RAMs)

Well the thing is, the big motherboard manufacturers have implemented a way to use XMP(rofiles) with their AMD models. Its called ASUS D.O.C.P. or Gigabyte E.O.C.P. and works most of the time, if the modules are not too extreme. However, there are obviously issues with some of the timings that can be tighter on intel and will fail on AMD if specced very tight in the XMP (e.g. tRFC). In the end, sometimes it works and sometimes you have to manually adjust. However all customers using a mainboard without that functionality or don't know what to adjust if needed are left out in the rain.

Is there a market for AMP memories? Yeah, i guess so.
Will G.SKILL sell millions of those kits? Probably not.

(If G.SKILL wanted to sell me a kit of AMP enabled F3-2400C9D-8GFLS, would i buy it? Hell yeah!^^)
