  • Voltage Questions (System: A10 5800k, MSI FM2 - E35, Ripjaws X F3-2133C10D-8GXM)

    Hi guys!
Been getting BSOD when I play Witcher 1 (the game from 2006!) with VERY HOT RAM. BTW, totally new to OC'ing but have learned a lot from the forum already. I see there are a couple posts with systems similar to mine but I'm hoping for some elaboration on voltage.

    My System spec is: A10 5800k, MSI FM2 - E35, Ripjaws X F3-2133C10D-8GXM, G Skill spec 10-12-12-31-2T-1.6V

The MSI product page for the FM2-A75MA-E35 lists a Main Memory volage of 1.5V.

Question 1: Does this represent a Maximum allowed voltage? Because I have nevertheless set the mobo DRAM Voltage running at 1.6....

Question 2: In practice is it Dangerous to exceed the mobo spec? The Ripjaws X RAM kit I'm trying to install calls for settings seemingly high above the supported spec for the E-35.

Question 3: Should I downshift my settings to 1866 effective frequency so I can run at lower Voltages? If so, how should I adjust timing and voltage settings?

    ************************************************** *******************
Quick sidestory: The MSI spec was something I just found out...prior I have had my system running at the G Skill recommended spec of CL10-12-12-31-2T 1.6V. It has actually been fairly stable with CoreTemp reporting idles from 0-20 degrees C...except for two cases:

    - When I run CPU-Z (and ONLY CPU-Z) the reported temps jump up to 50+ degrees C...I haven't seen this phenomenon reported elsewhere on the 'net tho!

    - When I run The Witcher 1 expansion quests (at Hi detail settings) the system actually goes to BSOD after about 20 minutes of play or so...seems to be a RAM-temperature related auto shut-down because the Ripjaw sticks were very hot to the touch following the BSOD.

Whats very strange about the Witcher case is that Witcher 2 (a much more graphically impressive and recent game) at Hi-detail settings has NOT given me these BSOD problems. Just for fun, I wonder if anyone has any thoughts about these weird occurences. In fact maybe I should move this part to another forum.

DRAM should be fine at rated spec also may want to add + 0.10 to the CPU/NB voltage, might get you through witcher

Pls offer comments on support I provide, HERE, in order to help me do a better job here:

OK will try to crank up the CPU-NB voltage a bit!

Is it also OK to bump up DRAM voltage above MSI's mobo spec?

Yes, no problem, but not much more than 1.65V.
