  • Change Windows registy to improve your SSD performance

Good for both XP and Vista, but mostly for XP

1st, Please format your SSD with 4k or 8k block size. Smaller block size can increase the performance of the SSD

For Vista, please make sure you disable superfetch
Control Panel -> Performance and maintenance-> Administrative tools-> Service -> Superfetch -> Startup type “Disable”-> ok

    Registry Tweaks
    to start regedit
    Start->run-> type in "regedit"

    Disable Automatic Boot Disk Optimization

    Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOpt imizeFunction

Modify or Make a new String value
Name = Enable, Type = String Value, change value to N

    Last Access Time Stamps

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Filesystem

Modify or Make a new DWORD Value
Name = NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate Type = DWORD Value, change value to 1

Prevent windows to move operating data on virtual memory

By default, windows do periodically checks to move its essential driver and kernel files to the virtual memory ( page file ).

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Se ssion Manager\Memory Management.
Select the DisablePagingExecutive value to '1'

Enable write caching on hard disks

Enabling hard drive write caching will make transferring of data between hard drives and memory more efficient. If you have a hot-swappable drive rack, or if you expect your PC to be shut down incorrectly, don't enable it.

To enable write caching right click on my computer and select 'properties.'

Select the hardware tab, then 'device manager.' From the device manager window, expand 'disk drives' and highlight your hard disk. Select 'properties' then the 'policies' tab.

Check the 'enable write caching on the disk' box.

Repeat the above steps for all hard drives in your system.

Install Windows SteadyState 2.5 <-------------- i don't really recommend it. some ppl think it is good, some ppl don't like it at all.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

After installation, turn on Windows Disk Protection and change the protection level to “Retain all changes permanently”. Please remember change the cache file around 10GB.

It coverts random write to sequential write. but make sure you have enough space for cache to prevent many windows restarting.

    reboot after you change it

The tweaks above work very well (tested numerous times). If you are looking for registry tweaks, those two are the one you have to change.

Try them to find out. No harm will be done if they don't apply.

pointless for 7 all you need is this http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/wind...ed-tweaks.html

oh and now you have to image verifi just to post. Weak
moving user profiles or app install is pointless cause most of the apps you want to run fast are now limited buy hdd kinda defeats the purpose of an ssd

About superfetch should i disable it or make it cache boot files only?
I already set my superfetch and readyboot disable, i notice ready boot writes alot & I only ask this because i read some tweaks that says don't disable superfetch because it will make a busy machine slowdown and the only benefit you can get on disabling superfetch is disk space.
