  • Phoenix Blade Windows 10 install problems - Solved

I wanted to share my experiences of upgrading to W10 on a system with a C drive Phoenixblade.

The system is an old Gigabyte X58/990X Gulftown with HD5870, used for miscellaneous support work and some video editing, and had been running a fully patched W7 pro.

Initially the W10 upgrade seemed to be going ok, until the system attempted to reboot about 65% through the install. No error messages, just a blank screen and no further progress, or the light blue 4 square blobs and an ever spinning circle of dots. (The installer would eventually roll back to W7).

To overcome this I imaged the data from the Phoenixblade onto a backup disc (256 GB Samsung 840 pro) using Casper 8.0.

The W10 upgrade ran without issues on the 840 pro, and I imaged the upgraded disc back onto the Phoenixblade.

W10 on the Phoenixblade has been running without problems since.

    Good luck with your upgrades.
