  • Trident Z RGB Software weird possible solution

My first original post : https://www.gskill.us/forum/showthre...=14247&page=21

    And Now :

Hey guys, remember me ? Yeah, the unfortunate dude who had his ram just go berserk a while ago. I sent these sticks back to the RMA center for exchange and got some after 24 excruciating days (shortage of product). While I was waiting, I bought some new sticks... I mean, did you really think I would wait ? Come on... (I was faithful so I got myself some G.SKILL ram again, the exact same specs to, and everything worked fine with the 1.00.22 beta soft) And it was perfect.

Today, I plug back my new ram, so I have 48 GB of ram now, go figure what I'll do with that BUT - Beware friends... because the events that will follow still fill me with dread and horror...
With more than 2 sticks at once (I say that because, until now everything worked like heaven), the G.SKILL RGB soft went nuts again and crashed 4 of my 6 sticks, on the spot. I guess you can pretty much imagine the reverse smile that was tearing my face apart... And you can almost taste my tears...

But you now what ? I'm a man, so I cried like a man and then I searched the internet with hope, like a man.
And I think I found a definitive fix, where I never should have.

I downloaded ASUS aura (you know, the soft from which G.SKILL inspired its own) and guess what, even though I have 0 ASUS hardware on my computer, the software launched and the ram sticks INSTANTLY worked and synced, without bug.
I mean... Holly molly WTF right ?

So, let's check if it was just dumb luck or if we can finally put this whole story behind us !

Uninstall everything G.SKILL has provided you with (and every ASUS related programs that come with the software installation, generally found in program files x86 as AsLed etc...), reboot your computer, install the ASUS soft and try to start it. It might fail at first, you might need to reboot everything to force its hand (I didn't have to, it went on automatically without reboot).

    Use this link :

    https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards...Desk_Download/

    -select your OS
    -select the utilities category
-download the second version : Aura Version 1.04.42

And for the love of god, please, tell me if it worked for you has well !

(Oh and because we're not holding grudges, wait for the release of the final G.SKILL version of the software, not a beta one, so they don't feel that bad about it...)

24h Update : I turned off my computer for the night and this morning (9:39 AM French dude, again), the ram sticks were non responsive. If it does the same thing for you, don't panic : uninstalling Aura and reinstalling it without rebooting the PC works and the lightening comes back to life.

So it might be a pain but if you want to use this soft, you might have to re-install it anytime you restart your computer and more than once.
Sometimes even after re-installing it doesn't entirely work, but after some effort it still is the best solution to date by comparison... Maybe.
PS : in the case all the sticks weren't responsive with the soft, I found out that this original G.SKILL solution helps quite a lot - with some modifications.

    1. Open the software, and click on “DEFAULT”. Wait a minute or two for the process to complete.
    2. Shut down the computer.
    3. Disconnect the power cord, and wait for 3 minutes. (This is important ?)
    4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the system.
    5. Once you launched the software again, hit the refresh button (located at the side of the exit cross in top right corner)
    6. You might have to rinse and repeat.

But at least, "60% of the time, it works every time", right ?

I will be putting my next build together over the next couple of weeks with some similar parts so got a few questions if you don't mind.

      Asus ROG Strix X370-F Gaming
      Ryzen 1700
      G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (4 x 8GB) CL14 (F4-3200C14D-16GTZR)
      Kraken X62 RL-KRX62-02
3x Corsair HD120 RGB & Lightning Node Pro
      Corsair Air 740
SLI GTX 980's (waiting on EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 Hybrid)

Is there a reason your not using the latest Aura 1.04.43?
If I only install the Aura and no Gskill software do you think I will have any issues with the RAM?
Do I still have to avoid apps like CPUZ & HWinfo?
How about Ryzen Master? (Saw your using Intel so not sure if you know this one)
Will the Hue+ interfere with the Gskill RGB at all? Guessing it doesn't read SPD's
Guessing the Kraken doesn't have any kind of Aura support?

      Thanks

I would not use the G-skills trident rgb for obvious reason. They don’t work as they say it does, the software I mean. I would go with corsair and before buying check what problems they are having if any. Now, if you don’t mind the rainbow color all the time the you can get G-skills but I wouldn’t.

I've seen some pretty nice setups with it, such as:
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=346MoRuk1mE&t=443s

But I understand its not a perfected tech and I'm paying a high premium. Especially considering all I really need is 2x8 GB's that I could get for less than half of the 4x8 RGB's.

Is it safe to use Asus Aura to change the colors of my mobo as long as I don't mess with the colors of the ram?

Wow, that worked for me! I had one stick that wouldn't respond to any change in the software, and I tried everything. Swapping DIMM's, resetting my BIOS, uninstalling other RGB software, reinstalling G.Skill's software, etc, but nothing worked until this!

                5. Once you launched the software again, hit the refresh button (located at the side of the exit cross in top right corner)
this step crashes the app after it locks up for about 3 minutes. every time. once the app has crashed it will crash on every time i try to open it until reboot.
