  • What would be faster on AM4: 4 x 8GB or 2 x 16GB?

Since AM4 with Ryzen only supports dual channel mode, quad channel RAM is used in dual channel mode on it. It there a difference in using 4 x 8GB kit vs 2 x 16 GB one, if they are rated the same for frequency / latency (and 8GB x 4 one is rated as quad channel)?

4 sticks' speed may not "stick" Ryzen or not, AMD is known to have trouble with 4 sticks for a long time. All of gskills 4 stick ryzen kits are 2400 or below. This only means you are up to a fight to achieve rated speeds and timings.

4x8GB kit of FlareX works well for me at 3200MHz with Ryzen 7 2700X. So it is possible.

At the same settings it is still four ranks vs four ranks if we are speaking about the same IC type. However depending with the motherboard it can make sense to chose one over the other based on MB topology and maximum supported frequencies with 4x8 vs 2x16. So I would recommend checking the QVL and G.SKILL RAM Configurator beforehand.
