  • Gigabyte Z170-G1, Ripjaws F4-3000C15Q-32GRK at 3000Mhz (XMP2) ?

I have a new Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming G1, latest F4r bios. i7-6700k at 4.6 ghz. Runs flawlessly (and fast!).

When I select XMP 2.0 in bios and DDR voltage to 1.35v, the bios fails on reboot with these Ripjaws sticks (rated at 3000).

If I change the speed to 2900, the system boots fine.

I suppose 100mhz isn't that big of a deal, but was wondering if anyone had advice on things I could to get this DDR4 to run at its rated speed.

Everything in bios is set to AUTO other than DDR4 voltage and the CPU Boost to 4600.

    Thanks for any advice!

Is your BIOS up to date?

Did you also try it with BIOS defaults, so without the CPU overclock?

Does the XMP work with only two modules installed? (It looks like some boards still have some issues with running four modules at higher clocks. This will probably improve with time and a few more BIOS releases.)

Also some CPUs might need a slight voltage bump on the integrated memory controller (IMC) for 4 modules at higher memory clocks. Normally the board should take care of this, but you can also just try to manually raise the VCCSA and/or VTT a bit.
