I am unable to hit the advertised 1866 memory speed.

I have the latest bios, I have the v2 xeon processor, I am only running 4 out of 8 DIMMS, when forcing the speed to 1866 I am unable to successfully shut down and my system wont wake from hibernation. All problems resolved when i set the speed to 1600.. But I paid specifically for this ram to do 1866 as promised.

what can i do to get the advertised speeds?

    thanks.

Well your board only claims to do 1600 mhz, but I'm sure there is a workaround, first thing (definately with as server board and a very recently released processor try updating the bios for the board if you haven't already. If it won't do the 1866 I would almost guarantee you its board related, Until VERY recently most (not sure I knew of any) server processors really didn't like anything over 1600. You could try tightening down the timings at 1600 and get nearly identical throughput

The memory will have no problem with DDR3-1866. The key is making sure you have motherboard and CPU that is capable, then everything should be smooth.

the board does support 1866 memory with a E5-v2 processor.

as stated i am using E5-2690 v2 and have the latest bios.

Have you tried one module at a time or XMP to see if the system can be stable with a single module? This will help determine the possible cause.

Also, if you have memory down settings in BIOS, make sure that is enabled.

          Thank you
