  • f3-2133c10q-16GXM Asus M4a89TD Pro/USB3 FX-8350

Recently Upgraded my CPU from a 1090t Thuban to an FX-8350 with water colling (running the 3029 Bios) and wanted to upgrade my memory.

    Purchased a 4x4gb 2133 Ripjaw X kit as I have 4 slots with a max of 4gb per slot.
I considered 2133 speeds may not be possible but was hoping for 1600 and whatever I could tweak out of them from there.

Installing the memory the machine refused to post (failing as soon as it interrogates the memory). I reinstalled my previous memory to access the bios loosening timings and adjusting voltages but to no avail. With only the Ripjaws installed the board refuses to post even at 1333 and 8-8-8-24, 9-9-9-30 or even looser latencies after giving the NB and CPU-NB a bump up .1 and ram @ 1.55v.

    here's the confounding part
So long as I include 1 of my old dims in any of the 4 slots (I've tested all 4), I can boot fine and even fill the other 3 slots with Ripjaws. My machine recognizes all 14gb (3x4gb & 1 x2Gb) and I can even tweak it up to 2133 and run a prime95 stress test. I've tested at multiple speeds from 1066-1600 at 1.5 and 1.6 volts - but as soon as I remove my old memory the machine won't post.

    my questions are
    1. Is there any hope for this build or is it simply an insurmountable compatibility issue?

    2. Is there an AM3+ board that will take my 8350 and run with the F3-2133c10q-16gxm kit, even if it dosn't get the full 2133 out of them?

    Cheers,

    Jay

Don't think the compatibility issue can be resolved without a BIOS update the support the new RAM. Is that the latest BIOS?

A 990FX motherboard should support the RAM and CPU to run at DDR3-2133.
