  • Rampage II GENE configuration

    Hello,
I see that you updated your compatibility with the [ Perfect Storm ] F3-16000CL8T-6GBPS to include the Gene II at 2000MHZ memory speed. I do see your guide for the F3-16000CL9T-6GBTD + ASUS Rampage II Extreme BIOS Settings. However I tried these in the past and was unable to get the ram to run at 2000MHZ. I order new memory from Newegg and replaced the MB (Also tried single sticks at a time).

I was told it could be a MB issue or RAM issue, no change at all still crashes on Vista Load (Sometimes loads and then crashes during testing) at 2000mhz memory speed. I have been running my system stable at 1600MHZ memory speed and 4.0GHZ OC on the processor for the last 2 months under load, temps at 45C. I saw that Asus released another bios update. I wanted to find out if you guys have been able to get the GENE II MB to run the memory at 2000MHZ yet and what settings you used? I tried many different configurations. Hoping for some new tricks, tips or a new configuration. Just a note my memory and mb are not bad.

      Jaym14,
Thank you nice to know its not just me. What speed did you get your memory to run at stable? Just a note my system is as follows for (GSKILL TECHS).

      Memory
      G.SKILL Perfect Storm 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Model F3-16000CL8T-6GBPS.

      CPU
      Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601920

      OS
      Windows Vista 64 BIT ultimate

      Motherboard
ASUS Rampage II GENE LGA 1366 Intel X58 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

A response on this would be great. Thank you for your time.

Enable the XMP Profile alone and let me know how that works. With older BIOS versions, only some people have been able to hit DDR3-2000. It depends on the CPU as well since the memory controller is embedded.

Let me know both of your test results and I will be able to assist you.

        Thank you

            OK.. Ran the XMP profile..

I left all the settings on auto. It didnt even make it to the log in screen it crashed. So how many of these settings do I need to modify?

What works for me on the 1600MHZ memory manual and 4.0GHZ OC is the following settings

            AI overclock - manual
OC from CPU level up - auto
OC from Memory level up - DDR3-1600
            CPU Ratio setting - 20 for 4.0GHz
CPU Turbo Power Limit - disable

            CPU configuration
CPU Ratio Setting - whichever you chose above

Now you said to run it as an XMP profile. Should I run it as manual or XMP profile with the above settings. With the XMP profile I cannot change all of the above settings. Thank you

OK, tried it out this weekend, no go.. doesnt even make it to the user log in screen. I am beginning to think I will just have to stick with 1600MHZ at 4.0GHZ. Bummer, when I got it to log into windows at 2000MHZ memory it was amazing for the first 10 seconds before it locked up. Anymore ideas let me know.

Up the CPU Vcore to 1.35V or possibly more. You need to find the spot on voltages when overclocking as they are specific to your system. Otherwise, simply reduce CPU Ratio and you should be able to operate the memory package at DDR3-2000 but with a lower CPU frequency.

                      Thank you
