  • F3-1380CL7Q 16GBZM four-pack with x78 motherboard?

    Greetings!

I have been running three sticks of 7CAS 1600 G.Skill memory with my x58 i7-930 combo since day one. It works flawlessly. However, it is only a 6gb kit. I'd like to move up to 12gb. I also want to stay with 7CAS. Sadly, 12gb (3x4gb) kits of 1600 7CAS G.Skill memory have disappeared from NewEgg.

My question is, would a a four-pack of F3-1280CL7Q 16GBZM work in an x58 motherboard (installing only three modules, keeping the fourth as backup)? Or are these newer modules truly designed for modern quad-channel motherboards only and can't be used in my tri-channel x58 ASUS?

    Thanks!

It should work fine, all memory can run in single/dual/tri/quad channel its about the board/number of sticks that determines how it will act. If you buy that kit it will work together as a tri channel kit, only possible issue is of the new sticks played well with the old ones or not, it should be possible to get them to work together, but some bios tweaks could be neccesary
